Hey bought an ASUS A2500K last year, with an Athlon 64 in it (Top of the line when bought)

Went well for a while, until i tried to install a 64 bit OS. The BIOS that was built into it wouldn't work with either linux or windows XP 64! What is the point in paying for a 64 bit processor if you can't run any 64bit Operating systems?

So I started googling for a solution, and found ASUS had put out a new "beta" BIOS that supported 64bit operating systems. So i downloaded, flashed and installed windows 64.

That went well until i tried to play video, it was only then that i realised this BIOS wouldn't let you render video through a graphics card, basicly i'm stuck watching videos in jolty software rendered settings on old media players.

I saw that other people were experiencing similar problems so i thought it was only a matter of time before ASUS fixed their BIOS. Wrong! A year later and i'm still waiting, if i send it in they will probably just jumper my BIOS back, but then i won't be able to run my really expensive copy of XP64.

This is ontop of an overheating graphics card, ocassionally failing USB ports and customer service that has been to say the best... celeron (after 3 calls, they finally say they'll see it and i have to pay shipping).

What do they usually do in situations like this?

ASUS customer service = meh. But besides that, you actually paid for XP64? I was under the impression that it was a free version. See, if it was free, I could understand you using XP64, but to actually pay to upgrade to a version that has almost 0 software support? I don't get it.

Yep - sort of sounds like a beta on top of a beta. Every review I ever read on XP64 said "wait a while. There's no software for it yet."

XP64 is fine, all the programs and games i use regularly work with no problems, it's the BIOS from ASUS that is screwing it up. I've re-installed 32 since then and linux and back to XP64 and none of them can play video correctly.

Nothing from microsoft is free, but it does have plenty of software support and does get the most out of your 64bit processor.

Yeah, those penguins with their self consciousness and crappy sense of humor. I mean if you can monitor races living across the universe, you'd hope they would find something that's actually funny to laugh about.
