What do you really have to do to start a Sole Proprietor type business?

Basically a Photography type business, in the state of New Jersey. I already have an IRS EIN#, but am unsure if that's enough to have a legal business.

Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

I think you can pretty much start doing your thing if you're a sole proprietor.

 

Form an LLC. That way, your business assets are wholly seperate from your personal assets. This is easily done with a lawyer.

Check with your state how much the yearly tax is on LLCs (in CA it's like $700). If it's high I recommend S-Corp.

The only thing he ever talks about is newsgroups, and apparently the first rule of NGs is that you don't talk about NGs. I wouldn't know, however; I don't use them.
