Actually, we lost Dad almost 5 years ago, from lung cancer (thus why I have quit the demon cigarettes!), and Mom now stays with my single sister (they share a 2-br apt). It works out well for both of them, and they enjoy each other's company. When mom starts getting to be too much of a burden, she'll likely just fade away, since I know she doesn't want to die in a rest home.

After having to deal with my grandparents, my mom and dad bought some sort of extra insurance specifically so we *wouldn't* have to worry about it. I forget exactly what it was though.
I realize what I just wrote might sound mean, but that's basically what it boiled down to. My grandmother was alright; she was just physically weak. My grandfather, on the other hand, had Alzheimer's, and did all sorts of odd things. He nearly burned the house down two years ago, because he set his pillow against one of the heating panels that were built into the wall. his room smelled like smoke for a *long* time.

I'm callous, I know. But if they truely lose their minds, then it doesn't matter what happens to them. They are already gone. Those are just shells that eat, drink, and sleep.
If they forget to eat and die, they were already dead. Why waste tons of society's resources simply to keep a shell living a lifeless life for only ~6 more months?
