I know people get the common stuff like general tso or sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, lo mein etc.

What are some uncommon stuff that you order from your local takeout? :hmm:

BBQ pork on rice is what I get most often these days, sometimes with a side of gai-lan. Found an awesome dive of a joint near my house; best BBQ pork I've had, at least as far as I can recall. :hmm:

General Tso's or Chicken w/ Snow Peas. Maybe Ginger Beef or Beef with Broccoli. But I only get Chinese food once a year, tops, since there's nowhere nearby with cheap delivery.

General Tso's was ruined for me once I had it at a real Szechuan place in the city... regular take out place general tso's just doesn't cut if for me anymore.

Are we talking the type that has food prepared in warming trays? Or call and order?

I avoid the former though ma po tofu works in a pinch from those places. There's a place by work that has amazing Sichuan food and my standing order is order hui guo rou (twice-cooked pork) with rice.

Sesame chicken (basically general tsos with sesame seeds on top) and ham-friend-rice. I'm not very adventurous either.

Every single place around here has your run of the mill "American Chinese" menu so nothing is really outstanding.

That said I usually get some of the following but not all at once:
Sesame chicken
General Tso's chicken
Spring rolls
Egg drop soup
Crab Rangoons
Fried rice with veggies, chicken, or pork

I usually just do a couple appetizers for myself.

steamed wontons in a spicy peanut sauce, cold noodles in a spicy sesame sauce, and maybe some vegetable fried rice.

if I get any entree for myself at all (which is rare), it's usually some kind of duck dish.
