What do you name your computers?

at home I have a few, daedalus, gandalf, at work bahamut, skywalker, tiamat, then there are the labs with star wars chars, greedo, exar kun, solo, vader, leia, ackbar (It's a trap!), wicket, chewbacca, BSG chars, baltar, boxey, apollo, adama, mythical beasts, ymir, cerberus, cyclops, fenris, jackalope, garm, gollum, kong, then some gods, crius, promethius, odysseus, calypso, atlas, raphael, hyperion, phoebe, oceanus, bifrost, aegir, asgard, there were some DBZ for a while, but they were renamed then many many more. How about you?

I name them after places/things from LOTR.

My desktop is named Udûn
My laptop is Utumno
My wireless network is Arda
My firewall is named Morannon.

The list goes on.

They used to be named after celestial objects like: Venus, Saturn, Milky Way, Jupiter, etc.
Then I switched to mythical creatures: Firebird, Thunderbird, Manticore, etc.

These aren't really my computers, but interesting names anyhow.

Our aerospace engineer departments servers are named after planets. The university has a bunch, including BigMac and Whopper. When I worked for the Air Force they had clusters named after ski resorts (Aspen, Tahoe, etc) and servers named after LOTR characters. When I worked for a large aerospace defense contractor, they had clusters named after classicial musicians (Bach, Haydn, Vivaldi, Brahms, plus a bunch more). Bach was like a 200+ node cluster of the fastest Opterons out there 🙂

My Main system is Thor (only because you can't have the same username as computer name or it would be Odin)
My CD/DVD/Ripping/Burning/Converting/Encoding System is Balrog (If it's on, CPU is running hot)
Gaming System (When I had it) was Behemoth
Laptop I think is Shiva...but not sure. I don't network it much and it's mainly for working at school or jacking into routers at work for config.

I have a WAP at work named Uranus, which makes for a comedic connect dialog. 😀

Haha! 😀

I named my homecomputer "Mothership", off hand I can't remember what I named my laptop.

I guess I'm boring (or practical?). Machines are named with geographic code, building location code, user initials, and a number. Mystical names are cutesey until you get over the 40 or 50 machine barrier and can't figure out what or where the hell "sauron" or "nosferatu" is in the country/world/building. Example: HUMCUSJS01 (Humble, TX - Customer Service - John Smith).

always been zeus since my olderbro/dad bought me and my younger borther a new computer(actually parts to build a new computer) and i thought my 900 t-bird w/ gf2 gts was the baddest thing on the planet

What kind of pathetic fool names a damn computer? I describe them by funciton, main, server, DIVX box, juke box....etc. Giving them names like people or pets is creepy and sad.
