It requires no interaction with Metro, VRE, I-66, I-395, Washington DC or any other form of commuting in this traffic infested hell hole.
 
This too. Something I never got in school. Everything in school is cookie cutter and has to be done the teacher's way. At work, unless there's politics or red tape (which is my case but it's not that bad everywhere) then you can be more creative, and as long as the work you did accomplishes the goal at the end of the day.
What sucks is when the high-ups tell you to design something, but:
1) They already "know" what they want the final design to look like, but they won't say what it is - then I get to go back and forth until I get it "right" by chance.
or 2) It gets designed by committee, with things like basic functionality and laws of physics and geometry seen as trivial details.
