What do you like about Anandtech vs other forums?

For me it is the quality of the other members there is IMHO There are no other forums With as high a level of maturity and real world skills as found here.:cookie:

I also like the mature interface without loud flashy annoyances.

even though there are blatant exceptions. The level of intelligence vs. fun and humore seems to be at a higher level than other forums. Plus i've rarely stumped anyone here with my tech questions.

Not sure I agree w/ the maturity angle, maybe, I guess in comparison ot other sites it may be higher but certainly it's not that high... we do have some quality members, SnR is pretty good here.

As for skills, etc, There are others, just not as popular or diverse (they tend to specialize in certain things). Like HowardForums for cellphone stuff and DSLReports forums, etc. And/But they aren't quite as offtopic-y either.

That's nice too, but, there are other nice ones as well. In this case I think Mature = Lack of images.

see www.big-boards.com for popularity rankings.

Almost all of the above (Maturity isn't an easily found trait in the average AT member) as well as uber fast replies to most posts.

I like the search function here...on the Relic forums, they had to take it away because when Dawn of War Launched, it was a 500% increase in users there and it brought the forum server to its knees.

There's a lot of extremely knowledgeable and friendly people here, who bend over backwards to help others, and that's what keeps me around. However, there's also a noticeable lack of Futuremark-forum-esque language, such as "u" = "you", which makes me want to kill small furry things.

Plus, the Off Topic section is pretty good 🙂

[Edit] Almost forgot - extremely clean and uncluttered *cough*AdBlock*cough* layout.

AT members are generally more mature and intelligent than the general population... and if you think AOLspeak is bad here, check out some other forums sometime, some are really bad... erm, "r rly bad", I mean 😉

No other forum I would rather post my 1,000 post in 🙂...

/quickly looks around...immediately intimidated by other post counts 🙁 /end/

I came here for the hardware reviews, found Hot Deals, then OT, then made the fatal error of clicking on P&N, now I'm a no-lifer

🙁

FS/FT originally brought me here. Though most of my posts are in OT. Hmm, is there a way to find out what percentage of our posts are in ehcih forums?

traffic mostly... that and free OT. i actually prefer arstechnica's forums much more though - i find their user base to be more knowledgable and older/more mature than the group here.

There are about 20 or so members I enjoy seeing here on a daily basis and I doubt a day has gone by that someone hasn't had me literally laughing out loud in my office. So for me it's the quality of the members and humor. I was originally here for the hardware forum having strayed from Hardforums but once I discovered ATOT it was all over and I've been here since. 😉

Good things about AT forums:

Moderators - they keep things from degenerating into a huge pile of useless and offensive crap and neffing. As much as people don't like being told what they cannot post, it is much better than what happens on less moderated forums (check out offtopic.com if you want to see how bad it can get)

Number of active members - unlike some forums, there are enough people here so there are always new topics and always someone willing to give advice. Some forums, you can post a question and wait a week before someone ever responds.

Variety of people - Always someone to make me laugh, have friendly discussion with, or share expertise.

SNR seems a bit higher then some other forums I've been on. Being moderated helps I think.

ATOT for the entertainment. It's pure gold some nights.

The other forums for the computer related help occasionally.
