No one will know. :) Been there done that. :D

I've heard public bathrooms are disgusting. But that's just what I heard.

no freedom, not a democracy and uncivilized punishments on crimes.

not a place i want to live in where the government censors/controls so many aspects of life. We should impose democracy on them!

:p

I know everything about Singapore. :)

I am from Malaysia but was REALLY close to Singapore. Let me put it this way, the High School that i went to, i can SEE the Singpore across the from my classroom. (It's a 4 storey building).

So basically the city that i lived in Malaysia is geographically a stone's throw from Singapore eventhough it's 2 different country.

So i know all. ;)

Then we would be a government controlling aspects of their life. That's a hypocritical stance.

I was being sarcastic. If that's what they want I could care less.

Wow. Nice replies. :)
Anyone else has anything to say?
Doing a survey on a small unbalanced sample size. Hehe.

So far, most of the replies have been pretty much within expectations. Anything really interesting?

pillage2001, you sound like you know the place really well. How long did you live in the country?

I think MingChia would know the place better cause he stays opposite Singapore. I bet he goes there almost 10 times a year. :D I've got a few friends there but rarely go there cause there's really nothing much that I can get there.

Interesting?? Sentosa Island is a good place to go if you're there for the first time. Orchard Road would be for sightseeing and shopping of course. :) Other than that, I'm not raelly familiar with that place. :D

HEY!! I didn't know there were other Malaysians on this board other than pillage2001...

How's it going guys? Or.... "apa khabar?"... or "ni hao..." or... "nei hou ma".... Not sure what you speak.

Man I miss Malaysia...

Anyway, about singapore.... "Kiasu" is a chinese term meaning "afraid to lose".. literally. As mentioned above, an example is that kids are pitted against each other, told what to do, constantly competing, and parents basically make it a constant contest between kids; hence they are "kiasu" or "afraid to lose". Of course, Singaporeans do not own the monopoly of this trait. it's everywhere, but it's very prominent there.

Sentosa island is cool, but overrated and over priced.

Night safari was very cool. I stood an inch away from a lion resting on a rock. Yeah, my balls were bigger than the lion's. :D (I was behind a thick glass actually).

Singapore can be very cool... if u know people there, or know how to get to interesting places.

Oh, interesting part. Singapore dollar is about 2.5 times (haven't checked in a while) a Malaysian ringgit, which in turn is about 10 x a Thai baht. This means, Singaporean likes shopping in Malaysia, and Malaysians like shopping in THailand (but actually u can get anything in Malaysia nowadays). Big difference in currency, lifestyle, etc.

Also customs check your gas to make sure it's filled to a point if u're crossing over to malaysia from singapore, to prevent people from getting gas regularly from Malaysia.

Oh, and Malaysia has the best food of all. Period. :)

i miss malaysia too :(

singapore was nice to visit. i wouldn't want to live there since its a police state. there is one corner of a park where you can speak your mind without being immediately arrested, but the stazi probably keeps tabs on you afterward.

What kind of answer are you expecting? ;)

There is this place call "Jurong" where you can get hook...... er..never mind. lol

Anyway, are you looking to visit there or what? If so, i would recommend you go Malaysia instead. ;) Nothing much really at Singapore, pretty much like a city in US, sky-rise building..etc. There are a few island nearby but that's about it.

If you want shopping and food, go to Malaysia. Period.

If you enjoy sight-seeing, or beach, or jungle, hiking stuff like that, definitely check out Thailand, Indonesia and of course Malaysia. ;)

oh c'mon, pillage is from singapore. I read it in some post.

I'm in singapore right now. What do you guys want know? Right now its bloody hot outside, and its nearly dinner time.

Some facts:

- most people cannnot speak good english, though they can write it, the slang is quite horrible
- most buildings are air conditioned
- liquor and cigarettes are bloody expensive, and recently, there was carlsberg ads everywhere during the festive season
- local soccer league sucks
- food is cheap
- transport system is very efficient, since most people use it
- etc.....

It's not English... it's Singlish. and in malaysia, it's Manglish. Get with the program... ;) You're the foreigner there.

I remember when I was there last time I still spoke with a US accent, and people would look at me like I'm weird or showing off or wannabe western or something... lol.

Liquor and cigarettes are cheaper in Malaysia. If u need those badly, go to Langkawi island up north in Malaysia. It's a tax free zone. 8 years or so ago, I was there and bought a case of tall cans of Heinekens for a little over 1 ringgit each (that's 1 quarter US). :) I was also 15 when I bought it.

You really should take this opportunity to go to Malaysia. Take a train that goes right to Kuala Lumpur or wherever u prefer... Hotel, food, EVERYTHING is unbelievably cheap if you compare it to US dollars. If u need ideas let us know. :) I'll post when i'm less sleepy.

I went home (Malaysia) 2 years ago, spent 3 months relaxing, vacationing everywhere, hotel, ate out more than once a day on average, did a whole lot of travelling, and I ended up spending a whopping $1500 in those 3 months! :) Try doing that in the US or even come close in Singapore. One thing though, when I wasn't travelling I would either stay at my home or girlfriend's place, so I wasn't in a hotel the whole time. That would've added up a bit quicker. :)

airport = Changi. :)

Here's something interesting ( i think):
"Singa" = Lion in Malay (Bahasa, native language over there, still National language of Malaysia).
"Pore" = the little holes on your skin. Best to keep clean and unclogged.

Story (please correct me if i'm wrong) goes something like this... Parameswara from Indonesia escaped his country for political reasons.. Went over to the island now known as Singapore (Singapura in malay).... Saw a lion there with clean, clear, unclogged pores, and exclaimed, "I shall name this, Mini Me. Oops, I mean, Singapura."

Forget Singapore or (West) Malaysia. Go to Sabah. Climb Mt. Kinabalu and get drunk with the locals.
Still got money in your pocket? Go to Sarawak, Brunei and Indonesia. Save money by hitchhiking. It's fun.
