What do you keep? Storage question...

What do you keep and how do you store it?

Music, is a given, 256 kbs mp3 ripped cds, aac and other mp3's on my HD
Movies, been starting a collection of Top Gear episodes (thanks to AaronB 😉) and my other backups.
Pictures, all pictures untouched directly from my digicam.
Games, all images of games including roms.

All of my stuff is on my main rig split between a 200, 40, 80, and 80 gb HD. I'm thinking in the future I want to offload it onto a file server running Samba and quad 200 gb hds. Is it worth it keeping everything or am I just a horder?

If you have a file server what is it running?

My Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, MacAlpine collection alone is over 3gigs. Everything else is sorted similar to yours in different directories and drives.

got a similar sorting spread out onto 3x120GB, 80GB, 40GB on my main rig. planning the same thing as for a file server running a quad 200+ raid. right now nothing is backed up so i'm asking for trouble.

music, porn, anime, porn, movies, and porn. i think i forgot to mention something, ohh, it's porn! honestly, i lost most of my porn when my 80gb backup failed 🙁

Music : mp3/mpc of varying quality if downloaded, FLAC if ripped from my own cds
Anime : all kinda different stuff mostly comedy, drama, bishoujo. about 70dvds and tons more on the hdd
Pictures : various wallpapers and animated gif and such, 99% anime related.
Games : melty blood react, party's breaker, a dozen of visual novels i havnt gotten into yet, diablo2 and farcry

everything is on my NTFS partition (180gb) of my 200gb seagate hdd.

I have a 250 GB sata drive for all of my content (ie: everything outside of the OS and programs):

MP3's - also stored on my iPod
Movies - stored on the hard drive, but occasonally burned to DVD if I want to watch it on the television
MyDocuments - kept on the content drive. this includes all of my pictures.
Games - real games are on my C drive (36 GB raptor), but I keep backups of saved files on the D drive. emulators and roms are kept on the D drive, just because I have so many of them and they're not really hardware intensive.

Same, I collect everything, including flash files and I never delete anything. 3x250GB, 2x160GB, 5x120GB, 1x100GB, 2x80GB. Most of it not backed up except for 40GB I have set aside for my digital camera files.

I keep music only. Everything I rip is --alt-preset standard, 128-320kbps LAME. Movies I'll watch and then burn to CD or delete.

I have a 13 gig main hard drive, and a 20 gig backup drive that only works when it's cold.

Sort of pathetic given what's been said in this thread.

I have a 250G Maxtor that has 76 shows at 74GB from 1971-1995.
All shows are in .shn format.
The Grateful Dead 🙂

I've been meaning to offload everything but the video files to a server like that; I picked up a 12-drive 3Ware Escalade controller and upgraded the house to gigabit with that in mind, but I haven't put the server together yet.

I've got about 1.3TB of video files online (that machine has a RaidCore SATA Raid host adapter with eight 250G drives) and lots more spooled off to DLT.
26,099 digicam pictures, taking up 21GB, and another 100 GB of other image files (ad layouts, graphics work, etc.)
Maybe 25GB of sound files, mostly library music and sound effects.
No games or anything like that, but tens of gigabytes of documentation, contracts, spreadsheets, and local copies of websites.

Apart from the video and sound files, I've got everything else stored on a 160GB and a 250GB hard drive. Up until a few months ago, I'd been using arrays of 18G and 36G 10K SCSI drives running off a MegaRAID Enterprise 1500 controller, but I switched to a pair of SATA drives because I'm trying to cut down the noise levels.

Right now I have a backup drive setup in 2 partitions that I use one for music (19 gigs) and the other for backup of pics, videos(all of the top gears), and other documents......I'll have a file server soon though so that will free up some space on my second hd.

Currently using an 80 gb and a 160 gb hd. 160 has 10gig music 10 gig movies 5 gig games and the rest anime. The 80 holds my downloads from dc++ and bt so some of that is movies/games/anime and I got like 20 gigs of psx isos

I do the same. I have a 120GB internal drive with 70GB of stuff I want to keep. I bouth an external 160GB USB2.0 drive and copied the data using "My Breifcase" and sync them once a week.

for this guy I would just mirror (RAID1) your drive to another.

Have 2 x 80gb HDD (One SATA) which contain:

10GB Of Music
1GB Pictures
7GB Of Games

Amongst other stuff

then a 20GB OS HDD

Dont use much space, Dont rip dvds and only have Dial up so movies, games and music are hard to d/l
