Your thread sux already.

Why do I have to hate my job? Why can't I like my job? Why can't I just be satisfied with my job? Why can't I just say, oh well it puts food on the table, my job? Why all the negativity? Maybe if you tried to be positive for once you might find that you actually like your job? ;)

I like my job. :)

Dealing with idiot coworkers. If they hired you to fix computers for a living, I'd assume you would actually know what the fvck you're doing. It's not *my* job to do *your* job. :|

hmm. well...

- some people can be tough to deal with. they think i am out to get them... "damn taxman"
- somewhat of a stagnant advancement situation. have to wait for old fogeys to retire
- office environment can get on my nerves sometimes. rumours, whispering, gossip & backstabbing
- uncertainty about the future of the corporation

Never knowing what time I'm gonna be getting off. I can have 4 hour nights to 14 hour nights, depending on how hungry the world is. I work at Food Lion.

The fact that no one is willing to confront anyone else about problems, so resentment and tension builds up until something relatively minor and unrelated to the original problem sets someone off, which results in hurt feelings, possible job transfers, lots of meetings, and general grumpiness.

I hate that IT is full of dinosaurs that have been with the company for 20+ years that can troubleshoot their way through Windows 3.1 and are MCPs on Windows NT4.

That and I hate the absolute mess that is documentation. Pretty much you have to figure out everything and guess a lot of the time what the hell process you should follow.

holy crap I feel your pain, it seems 90% of the IT/Helpdesk staff I meet are completely technically inept... I want to find out WHO hired them, and why?

Well, this isn't the thread for you. Make your own "why you like your job" thread.

1. The work schedule - why can't we know more than two weeks in advance how you are going to carve up our lives AND when you change the schedule after it is posted (in a book) have the common decency to let the effected nurse know about the change.
2. The vacation policy - Only two nurses total can be out in a given week, and they can't be from the same shift . Also have the common decency to put out the tentative vacation list more than two weeks before the next 13 week vacation schedule block. It sucks to be at the tail end of the signup sheet only to find out the only vacation week available was three weeks ago.
3. Mandation - management's failure to hire more staff isn't really my problem. If you mandate me - you are sure I'm calling in sick in the future. I signed up for X hours a week, not X + 16.

In my case, I know exactly who hired them, and that's the problem. By and large they were hired by a non-technical manager because of excellent customer service skills and not technical knowledge. 90% of the questions I get are "Why isn't this working?" and "How do I fix this?" :|

My biggest issue with them is problem-solving skills. You can have all the technical knowledge in the world, but if you don't know how to problem-solve and apply that knowledge to different situations, then you're useless. Don't ask me (for the third time!) why you can't print to a printer if you haven't at least verified basic connectivity and gone through basic testing procedures (verified a valid IP and queue, printed test pages, etc.) And even if they DO manage to do some troubleshooting beforehand, it's usually completely unrelated to what the problem actually is.

[end rant] Sorry, that turned out longer than I expected. :D

werd. Why even start a bonus program if you know you aren't going to pay out? It just lowers morale.

Just the lack of mental stimulation on a consistent basis. The pay is okay and I have more flexibility here than anyone could ever ask for. But for the most part, it's not a very challenging job and I find myself bored more often than not. I'd just prefer something that keeps my mind sharper.
