A client of mine came over last night and started going into this polished speech about Quixtar. This is not the first time . He has been trying to sign me up for 5 fvcking years. The guy will not take no for an answer.

Well anyway when he dropped over last night unexpectedly he asked me to goto a meeting with him. Well the guy has gotten alot of business my way so I thought I would humor him.

Well the dude giving the speech was very polished(are you sick of your job,do you hate life?,Blah, blahblah)and said I could be a millionaire in 5 years

Hmm I look over to my client and say well Doug has been doing this for five years and I know he is NOT a millionaire. ;)

When I got back home from the meeting he came in and proceeded to lay it on me again..facts,figures and any other heavy artillery to his disposal.

WTF!! LEAVE ME ALOOOONE!!!

I have two questions.

1)How do I politely tell a cutomer to lay off!! (I have tried for the last 5 years to do it)

2) Have you ever been approached by a pyrimaid scheme and what are your thoughts on this issue?

TIA

Yes I have an aquaintance who's been trying to tell me about it and says its the greatest thing since sliced bread. I told him I'm really not interested and I don't believe in such programs. After a few times I he got the message.

if he is a client of yours, i'd say you need to just keep telling him, politely, that you're not interested.

how annoying.

btw, what sort of client is he? if you don't mind me asking. how come he doesn't do his wonderful quixtar full time if he's going to be a millionaire?

I've only had one encounter with a pyramid-er, thank goodness I didn't know her that well. She laid out "the plan" and offered me some books and tapes. One had a recorded speech in which the speaker declared:

"You know... there are some out there who think that we're a CULT!!" followed by laughter and applause.

Needless to say I returned the stuff to her with not much more than a brief refusal and adios muchachos.

For some reason I still remember that line, and till today it still creeps me out in a vague sorta way.

the thing that freaked me out was when i went of one of these "meetings". some supposedly really rich dude suckered me into going. once i got there and listened to the typical load of crap, i was listening to these people talking to the rich guy. they were like, "we trust you" "just tell us how much and we'll sign up".

i still think about that occasionally and wonder how that guy sleeps at night.

He sounds very gullible. If he is a client of yours I'd probably try to sell him a bridge and take all he has got.

Oh God, I can not stand quixtar. I went to one of their meetings once too and basically heard the same thing that you did. The guy that was trying to get me to sign up with them was really forceful and called me ALL THE TIME. I tried to tell the guy but he didn't listen so I just started ignoring him....sounds like you can't do that.

Poke holes in their scheme. I had a friend take me to a meeting with his higher up and he tried to sign me up.

Him: Do you know what exponential means?
Me: Yep.
Him: What?
Me: Well I can't remember the exact formal definition, but I have taken my university math classes (we had just finished discussiing this).
Him: It means it doubles.
Me: Er... no. It goes up by a factor every time, but that factor doesn't have to be 2.
Him: It means it doubles.

So we get farther along and he brings out the "if you get 5 friends who each get 5 friends, you'll be a millionaire. Then you don't even have to buy from here anymore."
Me: First, I don't know 5 friends who would want in. All of my friends are poor university students. Second, in order to be a millionaire, they all have to buy all of their sh!t from this one place all the time, and each know people who will as well. And If I tell them that they can all sign people up and then stop buying, I make jack because soon everyone buying will be below my lowest pyramid level.
Him: Well... yeah, but...
Me: Thanks :)

I have been approached several times to get in on this. They pitch it like it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I have yet to know anybody who has made a large amount of money or a steady income doing this. The thing that really gets me is the upfront fee to get started, save you a spot, and start putting people under you. The paying up front part is what really gets me. How come it takes so much money to get started? Why aren't there any guarentees if it's a sure fire thing? I always ask them how much they have personally made from the program and they will never give me any kind of answer. If they were all millionaires then how come they are pushing so hard for new recruits? They really get offended if you press hard enough on any of these points. This sends all kinds of red flags up for me. I then politely tell them if they don't have any proof that this is going to be profitable for me or any kind of guarentee then I'm not interested.

You should tell your friend to call you when he becomes that 5-year millionaire.

People kept trying to get me in on that. In fact, I stopped being friends with some kid because of it, it was like he got rabies or something, he was all foaming at the mouth etc...

I know about 5-10 people total who have done it or something like it, and in each of their cases they all have stories about meeting a millionare, but... none of them made it that far, and years later I definatley do not regret staying away from it myself

BTW: i ran small businesses on the side for a while, so the best way to get them off my back is to launch into my own thing about how I should start a franchise with my powerwashing/deck painting company or somethign like that and how rich someone could get by doing that (its true! i just dont feel like spending the time) and how it woudl be way better than their plan since I'd own it and be in total control. Then they usually shut up.
