I saw on a flyer that some guy is offering to sell his '93 Chevy S10 Blazer for $5,500. Here's exactly what it says on the flyer:

--------------
'93 Chevrolet S10 Blazer 4x4

4.3L Vortec, 115,000 miles, Tahoe Tow Package, polished aluminum rims, PS, PB, PW, PL, AM-FM Cassette, Beige Velour interior, reclining seats, runs great, very clean.
--------------

I haven't seen the car yet so I can't tell about the physical aspects of the car nor how it runs. But based on the above info and assuming the car has gone through normal wear and tear, and decent mechanical services (e.g. oil change, etc), how much of a bargain is the car for $5,500?

edit: forgot to mention...

the guy who's selling the truck lives in cincinnati, ohio so the suv has been through snowy weather.

They had a lot of transmission problems in the S-10 series after 100k. Be sure to check it out thoroughly, listen for any whining in any of the gears, and check for lazy shifts. The 4.3 is a decent motor if properly taken care of.

I had a 94 with the same packaging and it was a 4 door, mine was black though, and it had 94k miles on it. I traded in in when I bought my 2000 Durango in Jan of 2000 and got almost 8k for the Blazer. All in all it wasn't a bad car but the last two years I had it things really started going to crap.

Find a used Ford (were they good during that period?), Toyota, Isuzu or Nissan.

everyone's been really helpful so far but I would like to get more opinions relating to this car alone.

The fact is the guy is asking $5500 for a car with 11500 miles on it. No matter what the market demands, I think it's insanity to pay that much for a car that's worn out.

115k miles isn't alot for a 93 model.

Anyway my parents bought a 91 olds bravada(same thing as the s10 except it has all time 4wd) 4.3l auto 88k for $3,300 6 months ago and it is in just about perfect shape. The only thing wrong with it is the valve stem seals leak a little so when you start it after its been setting for awhile you get a little puff off blue smoke. It doesn't really hurt anything but it is something to look for because I think thats a common problem with the 4.3l.

s-blazers are crap and so were the ones they renamed to blazer. the trailblazer looks like it might be good. 115000 is as many miles as i have and my car is two years older. its 14375 miles a year, well over the expected 12000.

Blazer's like that will go for a lonnnnng time. When I worked at a chevy garage there were often blazers with 200000-300000 miles. Don't get me wrong, I think they're ugly POS, but they're fairly reliable. Bad brakes though.

actually that price isn't that bad at all for a 4x4

But it does have high miles... Once you hit about 150k it will be done

LOL,
That's no miles ;)
My 98 Cheyenne ex-cab has 101,000!!!!

Kntx,
your right there!!I have a friend that works as a front end specialist at one of these tire places and the local waste management has there contract through them,he say's they bring those chevy's in there all the time with 200-300,000 miles on them!!Not just one or two of them, most of them! They drivem until the wheels fall off of them :D:D

Actually the blazer has average miles, maybe a tad bit higher but not much!!
That's really not that bad of a deal,I would think more around 4500.00

You don't have to worry about alot of snow here in Cincinnati either as far as salt eating the metal up!!We are lucky if we get one good snowfall a winter anymore.

Yeah really my dad's 96 t-bird has 240k miles on it. Now that is high mileage. I haven't owned a car yet with less than 100k and my average is around 170k.

I looked this up in NADA, (Not the online site, they only give consumer values which don't distinguish by region, and are only updated quarterly.) The pay site allows for regional variations, takes adds or deducts for mileage and options, but you can look at the free site with the link at the bottom of this message.

First of all, 90,000 is considered average mileage for a 93. Secondly, you didn't state whether it was a 2 or 4 door. I gave you the benefit of a doubt and went with the 4 door which is worth more.

That vehicle books out at $4500 in the midwest US, which is where it is located now. He's trying to get full-boat retail at $5500 without the high mileage deduct of $900.

It should be closer to $4500.

I still don't care what anyone says, to pay $5500 for an 8 year old car that has over 100k miles is nuts.

Sorry if you don't like what I have to say, but you asked.here
