What do you guys think of this lappy?

I was thinking of getting a 64 bit laptop so I could do testing on the machine with 64 bit OSes. I know you might say go Centrino its better etc... But Centrino has integrated Intel Graphics Accelerator and also still is 32 bit with no 64 bit in site.

This is a canadian model laptop, couldn't find really anything with this type of specs. I was looking at an Acer TravelMate 5500 with the AMD Turion and X700 but well did not feel like spending the extra $200+ for the graphics.

The one I'm look at is the following:HP L2105CA

What do you guys think of the specs? I know its hard to get an 80GB 5200 rpm drive in a lappy hence why I was asking for your opinion on the specs.

Looks pretty cool to me. And what difference does it make where you purchase the laptop? If you can find the same laptop cheaper somewhere else then of course buy it there. But if BB has the best price for the model you want then you'd be a fool not to buy it at BB.

At least in US BB has one of thee best extended warrantys i have found. As for the livestrong lappys they are nice.. Compusa also selles them.

Yah but I'm in Canada.... I tried looking for it at other online places and cannot find it I guess it is really made for BB. I am not going to buy from them an extended warranty.

I do work for an extended warranty company and well BB's don't cover accidental damage so you know what I'll take 🙂

Its hard to find a lappy with those specs than cost for that much. The drives are 5400 rpm and 1gb of ram... The travelmate I was looking at was 512 with x700 but I don't really need that high of a graphics chipset.

I've seen that laptop for about 200$ less, after adjusting for CDN. (In the US, I've seen that laptop with a 1.6 ghz processor for about 1100$ CDN, after rebates. And yes, it was the spiffy "livestrong" edition.) Also, you may be able to find a Turion notebook with a lower-end graphics card; I've seen a few with the X200 integrated graphics by ATI, which beat the pants off of Via's Unichrome, SiS's integrated graphics unit, and Intel's Extreme 3 integrated options in the benchmarks I've seen so far.

$1200USD for that isn't too bad, considering your limited options in CA.

Do you specifically want 14"? Acer makes a Travelmate (or is it Aspire?) 4402 model that has Turion and 64MB X700. It sells on NewEgg for a little over $1K USD I think, if you can find that in CA it should be a great machine. It is 15.4" tho and a bit heavier.

Its about $1500 cdn I saw the Travelmate but I mean the product seems the L2105CA edition. I do not want to run into problems if I get a US model laptop. Plenty of customers run into the issue where you can't get service because the laptop is american and you're in Canada.

Cheesehead, this one has a dedicated video so its not shared memory. Its 128MB dedicated X300 or X200 I can't recall now. Its fine enough...

The X200 is not a dedicated graphics card.
The x300 GPU (which is almost the same as the 9200, from what I've seen), is a nice enough GPU.
It looks like a nice laptop. Keep an eye out in the sunday paper for cupons; you could probbably save 200$ CDN if you wait a week or two.
Oh, and post a review so we can see how great it is, too!

Anand wouldn't be paying me for a review so I'd review it on my site 🙂 Besides he gets enough of his own traffic and a cartoon of him too.

Yah I'm kinda looking at the stock numbers to make sure I don't miss out though it would be sad :'(

I purchased this laptop today. It does happen to be a best buy exclusive, so if you're specifically looking for the L2105CA, "Best buy is a rip off, dont buy there" probably wont fly.

I managed to get it today for $1099, with the grand opening savings plus preffered customer savings.

Not a bad laptop for 1099 canadian.

Although it is a BB exclusive, you can get something nearly identical from the same manufacturer at, say, office depot.

That said, 1100$ canadian is a nice deal, all things considered. (Memo to self: Always remember listed prices are in CDN!)

Centrino has nothing to do with graphics.... You can find plenty of cnetrino branded laptops that have discreet graphics from ATI or Nvidia.

Now 64 bit.... that's another story.... Can you wait until February??? 😛
