Alright, here's my setup as it stands right now:

Headunit: Kenwood KDC-519 (already have)

Front Speakers: Infinity Kappa 60.5cs 6.5" components

Amp Powering Front Speakers: Pioneer GM-X962 (purchasing from a forum member)

Rear Speakers: Infinity Reference REF6002I (powered by the headunit)

Amp Powering the Subwoofer: Crunch V-150 (already have)

Subwoofer: Infinity 1032W (I need to go as cheap as possible, as this will send me over my desired budget, here are some specs: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/INFREF1032W)

DO you really think I should? I have to worry about speaker depth if I put them in the front, and a ton of extra wiring I've been debating over whether to get another set of components for the front too - do you think I would have to get another amp, or would the headunit be able to power it well enough?

109$ is very overpriced for pioneer speakers... and component are for imaging.. so you dont want to put it for the back. just throw some infiniti kappas from etronics.com in the rear, and use components up front or just use kappas all-around. you can get some better components for the price from better brands

Have you bought a lot from etronics? This is the first time I've really set up a system by myself - the installation is the easy part, it's just picking out the right components that is hard :) Right now all I have is the headunit listed above, and I can get the amp above for a good price. I also have a 150w amp that is just sitting on my floor currently. What do you think the best combination would be for my car ('98 200sx, 6.5" all around)?

I would feel perfectly comfortable making another purchase from etronics. They're quite well rated.

Cool - the only real question I have is if I do put components in the front, where's the best place to place the tweeter?

Prolly the sail panels or near them on the door panels.

EDIT: Or near the bottom of the A-pillar.

The sail panels are the panels located on the opposite side of ones external side mirrors, right?

ALright, how does this setup sound: My kenwood headunit, a set of Infinity Kappa 60.5cs 6.5" components in the front, a pair of Infinity Reference REF6002I speakers in the back, with the Pioneer amp pushing the components, and the headunit pushing the rears?

Also, I have a crunch amp that someone gave to me, similar to this (same specs, but min eis the V-150, not the V-150SE). I'm not really into bass, but do you think I could use this power a subwoofer for some bass?

I'd cut the rear fill for now. Some people like it, some dont. So, not getting rear fill saves money for higher end up front, and later if you want you can add them in. Rear fill is really a personal preference kinda thing.

I'm a big fan of MB Quarts but some people say their tweeters are a bit on the bright side. Focals sound nice too and I may get them in my next car if I run into mounting depth issues. I'd personally skip the rears, I could hardly ever notice them with a good sounding pair of components up front. They just add a bit of ambience and create a better sound stage for rear seat passengers if you haul people around a lot.

Nutbucket: Does my new setup sound good?

I like Infinitis and Polk's. Might be a tad weak on the power using the HU to power them. Why not use the amp to power your fronts? It will be spectacular!! After I finish paying for all of these go-fast parts I'm gonna upgrade my stereo again; components (MB Quartz, maybe Boston Acoustics) and a fat amp.

Yea, in my post I said that the amp would be pushing the front components, but my rear speakers would be powered by the HU.

Man, I never realized I was such a car audio newb!! :p One more question - If I were to pick up a 10" Subwoofer, would it be best to mount the box in my trunk or would leaving it on my back seat be better (My car is a coupe, and I NEVER use my back seat)? Would 1 10" rattle my trunk a lot?

Put it in the trunk. Its designed to work with then enclosed space of the trunk as well as the box.

Can't really say for sure. It may bring out some rattles that were previously unnoticed or unhearable, but by itself it shouldn't really rattle your trunk around from sheer SPL. Nothing a little dynamat or raammat won't fix though (which I recommend doing regardless, unless you're really really averse to adding weight to your car).

My fat ass adds plenty of weight to the car, so a few more pound won't really matter :p Any recomendations on a nice, but VERY affordable 10" sub :D

I like JL subs for their clean and tight sounding bass. They also work pretty well in small enclosures. You can often pick up new 10w0's on ebay for around $80.

I dont really keep up on affordable subs, so I couldnt really help there. Infinity perhaps. Not the loudest, but good SQ.
I'd do a 12" if I were you. The Shiva. I alwast recommend it to anyone lookin for a good budget sub.

DO NOT mount your tweeters in the sail or A-pillar or dash. Keep your tweets as close to your mids as possible (meaning either make a mounting plate for them or drill a hole in the door). Seperating your mids and highs like that will make your front stage go to hell, it destroys your imaging.

For $100 you can do better than Pioneer. If you want a smooth sounding speaker, Rainbow Dreamline is a great set of speakers for the price (about $125 shipped from ampmanaudio.com last I checked, they go used for about $70). Might also considering listening to Diamond Audio, your local car audio store should carry them. Kar Audio (entry-level Arc) is supposed to have some cheap speakers but I haven't personally heard them yet, I think those go for $100 too. If you like the loud dynamic Pioneer-type sound, then go with MB Quart, they go for around $100, but note that entry MB Quarts are not efficient speakers so they sound better when you have a lot of power going through them. If you're just going after loud, there's nothing wrong with Pioneer (heck they're more efficient than Infinity) but they don't sound all that great, just loud.

BTW, this is assuming that you'll be putting the new speakers up front and moving your current speakers to the rear, it doesn't make much sense to put components in the rear. And yes, it'd sound better with your amp driving your fronts and the head unit driving the rears.
