Just trying to take a poll for my final exam...

so what are your views on finals in college writing courses?? I mean, here is how it is: Throughout the semester, you have no doubt written lots of essays.....some were good, some were bad. The last week of school, there is this thing called a "final" that is supposed to measure everything you have learned in the semester.....But how do you do that in a english course? You can't just do 1 timed writing and expect that to assess the student right?

so tell me, what do you guys think of final exams in college writing courses?? tell me your views, your experience, or add on to what I said...

also, tell me how your college writing course was? what was it??

thanx a million.

should just be a longer final paper. like 10-12 pages. that is what i had to do in both my English classes in college. (we had to take like a Eng 160 and Eng 161)

I completed four years of college and a three year post college degree. I got very respectable class standings/grades in both with a minimum of effort. I almost always choose tests over paper courses. My theory was that it was a more efficient use of my time to take a 2-3 hour test (1 hour in college) than to spend forever researching and writing a paper. Under either method, you have to keep up with the classwork/reading anyways, and I would rarely spend more than double the length of the test "cramming" for it.

Of course, in real life, there are very few "tests" as such and very many papers to write so you better make sure you have decent writing skills.

A total waste of time. More than often, I'll lose the urge to study for finals because of all the midterms and assignments due. :(
