Personally, I think it is garbage, People should be selected to go to universities based on aptitude rather than skin colour.

Personally, I think it is a major bone of contention in this country and only accomplishes continuing racial tension.

I think I should be guaranteed a job, even though might be less qualified than the people I am competing with for the job, because I am homosexual. Also, if you have a certain number of straight people working for you, and no homosexuals, I think you should be forced to hire me. Otherwise I might not be able to get the job due to discrimination. :|

There certainly is a lot of people in here talking about flamwars considering that there are no flames at all and EVERYONE who has expressed his opinion has agreed with the OP.

I don't think it's right. Making hiring decisions based on race is wrong any way you slice it. They should not be able to take race into account.

But what REALLY gets me is when a company claims it's both Equal Opportunity AND Affirmative Action. The two are mutually exclusive. Either you do take race/gender into account when you make hiring decisions or you don't. You can't say that you don't consider race when hiring (EO), but then say that you do use metrics that take race into account (AA).

You're absolutely right. White people are disgruntled at being unfairly rejected on the basis of skin color and SOME black/hispanic people are offended at the idea that they can't accomplish things on their own just because of their skin color.

Of course, other folks of color LOVE the entitlement. I suspect it's a matter of how you're raised whether you go for it or not.

AA is an old and outdated program.. It was needed before...but I do not think that it is needed now.
