Hi... I'm Brian Burke, Director for Global Feedback Policy. As eBay continues to grow, it is important that we continue to evolve the Feedback system to ensure it remains a credible measure of trust. For almost two years, eBay has been working on a new project to enhance our current reputation system. Feedback 2.0, which Bill Cobb announced at the eCommerce forum last January, adds a new dimension to eBay's premier online reputation system, allowing buyers to better rate and evaluate sellers on important aspects of a transaction.

In the next few days, buyers in Australia, Belgium, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom will be able to rate sellers on the four Detailed Seller Ratings we announced as part of Feedback 2.0.

Feedback 2.0 adds these new features:

Detailed Seller Ratings ? In addition to the current positive, negative or neutral comment, buyers rate their sellers on specific transaction aspects -- Item Description, Communication, Shipping time and Shipping & Handling Charges. Scores are based on a conventional 1 to 5 scale, with 1 being the lowest and 5 the being the highest rating. The average score for each rating is displayed on the seller's Feedback Profile page.

Item Title and Price ? To give buyers more information while they are evaluating the reputation of a seller, the transaction's item title and selling price will display beneath each Feedback comment on the Feedback Profile page for 90 days.

Detailed Seller Ratings and the other changes included in Feedback 2.0 do not replace the current Feedback system, rather they augment it. This additional information will enable our best sellers to differentiate themselves from other sellers and enable buyers to make more informed decisions prior to purchasing.

US Launch Plans
Currently, the US is expecting to launch Feedback 2.0 sometime in late spring. I'll provide more updates as we get closer to launch. Also, I recently did an interview with eBay's Chatter Blog team about Feedback 2.0, which I hope you'll check out for even more information about this project.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke

So buyers get to scrutinize sellers on every little facet, but sellers have the same postive/negative/neutral options for buyers?

How about sellers get a chance to rate buyers on the areas of:

Excessive e-mails
Asking stupid questions
Complaining about shipping charges
Failing to read item descriptions
Taking too long to pay
etc.

It looks too ambiguous to me. Rating 1-5 on Item as described (seems like a yes or no to me) , communication (ambiguous), shipping time (an actual number for days would be better), and shipping charges (I don't care what you thought about charges, the only thing that matters is if the charges on the item I want seem fair to me).

I say we just move to heatware.

Seriously though... can I just get a way to sort by positive/negative, for the love of God??

My thoughts exactly. My guess is that a LOT of sellers will start seeing really low "Shipping/Handling Charges" ratings :D

Heck it's hard enough getting buyers to give feedback for + or -. Now they'll never leave feedback.

Of course... *and* it took a "Director of Global Feedback Policy" to coordinate it all. What a cushy job, must be nice...

Could we start a petition to ask Google for an auction site and a payment system to rival Paypal? (yes, I know you can use Google checkout, but it's a little different)

I have a bunch of things to sell, but I cannot stand dealing with eGay.

Rating on shipping and handling charges shouldn't be, unless the seller doesn't specify in the auction or charges the buyer something different than stated. I don't understand why buyers leave negative feedback about high shipping charges when it's listed in bold on the auction page.

(To qualify, I always charge actual shipping costs without any extra handling costs)

I personally think it would be great to rake a seller over the coals about paying $15 for shipping of a SD card and when you get it , there's (2) .39 stamps on a .25 padded envelope.

OR

The seller taking way too long to ship?

It should be expanded to include both ways.

Sounds like me that you are the exact kind of seller ebay doesn't want/need.

Sounds reasonable to me

1) Excessive emails. I routinely get emails asking me stuff that IS ALREADY IN THE AUCTION CLEARLY LAID OUT. Then I get emails after the auction asking me for tracking information when I send that info out as soon as payment is received. It's a waste of my time.
2) Asking stupid questions. See #1
3) Complaining about shipping charges. Shipping terms are clearly laid out in the auction. Don't come bitching to me about shipping. Otherwise, see #1
4) Failing to read item descriptions. See #1
5) Taking too long to pay. Another one of my pet peeves. If you're going to bid on some, please pay within a reasonable amount of time. No seller like buyers that wait around and wait around. I give buyers 5 business days to pay. If they don't pay within that amount of time, YOU = PWNED.

Looks like the changes are coming online. If I look at my profile now, I can see the updated layout. It says that my "detailed seller rating" won't be available until I receive 10 such reviews though.

My main issue right now is the feedback page and how it lists everything you bought or sold right away. Sure in the past people could find out if they clicked the links, but only the people directly interested in doing business with you would check out what you've bought or sold.

It's not an entirely bad thing I guess, it's just kinda hard getting used to something new.

I only think 4 and 5 would be useful. 1-3 seem like petty squabbling. #4 would be useful information in case you are seeling something a little out of the ordinary, so you can clarify that the seller understands what you are selling. #5 is by far the most important.

As for the OP, I think some of it is not that useful. The most important thing is the item title and price. I want to feel confident that the ratings apply to the item I'm ordering and it's hard to feel confident when all they write is A++++++++ and no additional info. Shipping time and item description accuracy would be other two important ones. Shipping charges is nearly worthless, and communication is too vague.
