I was in a Harris Teeter grocery store the other day and they had one of these automated RedBox DVD rental machines in there.

You choose a DVD (all the latest releases), swipe your debit/CC, and the DVD is dispensed. You then have to return it within 24 hours.

They had a bunch of movies (including 300). My GF wanted to watch Premonition, so we got that. Overall, I'm quite impressed. You also return it from the same machine you get it from (or any other RedBox location).

For someone who doesn't rent movies that often, $1 ain't half bad.

I think they're great. There's a Harris Teeter right next to our place, so even if I'm not shopping I can just pop in there and grab a movie. Btw, go to Redbox Codes and they have a few codes that will get you free rentals.

I haven't tried them multiple times yet, I keep forgetting them when I decide to rent a movie. Some of them don't always work. I know for a fact BREAKROOM works though, it worked for me and for my mother in law when she tried it.

EDIT: I found another site that says the codes can be used multiple times per account, but only once per debit/credit card. So if you have a few cards to put things on with the number of codes out there you can get free rentals for awhile.

It's supposedly once per card but I've been able to reuse them (I think, I don't keep really good track) at different locations.

yep free codes can be used once per credit card, but you can use multiple codes on the same card. it's a great deal, there's always a line on friday and saturday nights at the local redbox

it's cool, but only if you'll be by the box often. Doesn't work for me, and a lot of times there's a line and you have to wait while people try to figure out what to do.

They did put one on campus now.. I really wish it was there when I was still going to school, I would walk through nearly every freakin day.

I haven't seen that particular company's machines, but my local grocery store has a machine that rents movies for $1.50. I've used it a few times. There's a Wegman's that has a $1 machine, but that's too far for me.

ya, I think it's a pretty good idea. a buck for a DVD, no commitment, no need to sign up, and rather conveinent too.

They great. I started using them as soon as they came out in our area. I think I was one of the few people that even knew what they were. $1.00 is cheap if your doing this every once and a while but it can get expensive. If your occasionaly looking at movies it should be find. But if your doing it every day almost netflix would be cheaper.

I like them, usually the newer releases and it's very easy to use - no walking around a store looking for something.

Also, you can use each code, on a specific CC. If you have more than one CC, well.... ;)

I'm near a few and have begun to love them. Not something one can use often because there aren't enough titles, but the latest top releases are usually there, including the ones that faired well with the academy nominations/awards etc.

And according to the kiosk, its a 9pm return deadline the following day, as opposed to a static 24hr cutoff. This works better for me, since I'm usually there late-afternoon.

whats the late fee for this? I bet it is pretty high, or do they just charge you an other buck for another 24hrs period?

Yep, its another $1+tax each day its late. However after the 25th late day, its generously "yours to keep."

The redboxes around here only have crap movies that either no one watched or are a billion years old.

I use them a lot - just some selections aren't great. There is a competitor one at the store close to me which has a better selection IMO.

I believe the titles are generally roughly the same everywhere, limited to what's not checked out etc.

Rented one tonight (Michael Collins) from the nearby RedBox. There are actually two in that shopping center since the McD's has one as well. Perhaps that's why the selection is decent, or it could be that the shopping center is a little dicey at night.

Anyway, great idea and incredibly convenient especially since we're about 2 miles away. I hate Blockbuster, and this has put the last nail in the coffin for going and renting movies at a place like that. Whatever I can't see or DVR on HBO, I'll rent from RedBox.

I like it. Definitely cheaper for me than Netflix or BB because I've seen just about every older movie I'll ever want to see. I use RedBox to keep up on new releases.

I used them for a while, then I went back to blockbuster. You think to yourself "wow $1; I'll just return it tomorrow". Thats hardly ever the case though; people wait days before returning their movies, and they charge $1 per day.
