I've been doing some research trying to decide which MOBO and Processor to get. I started out ready to do a full overhaul, but from the look of things, there is a great deal of technology on the horizon, and I don't think right now is the time to do a full out upgrade. I want upper level performance, however I don't want to pay for the best of the best. I'd like to spend no more than $220 on MOBO and Processor combined. What do you folks think I should get? I want to overclock as well, and am not sure which is the best MOBO to get for this. below are a few things I
1.) from what I've read, the best MOBO socket to go with in my position would be Socket 754. My reasoning being that, while not the fastest, I feel that it is the most bang for my buck. I plan on doing some overclocking, so will get a little additional speed out of that. From what I've heard and read, the performance increase which one gets from going with the 939 is not worth the extra money.
2.) As I said, I want to overclock. From what I've read, the best chip for this would be found in the mobile athlon series of chips. I've noticed that on Newegg, there are 35 watt and 45 watt versions. Is the 35 watt better? if so, why?
3.) Nforce or VIA?
4.) Which brand/model MOBO is the best for overclocking and general performance/stability?
5.) What is the best memory for overclocking? (the price of memory is not factored into the $220 stated at the top) I'm currently considering getting two sticks of Kingston 512 MB 333 MHZ DDR-PC2700 DIMM CL2.5 PC Memory. I have gift certificates to amazon.com, so these will be free. Are these the best choice? For about $40 more, I could get the Kingston 512MB HyperX DDR 500MHz PC4000 Ram, would the increase in performance be noticable?
Thats all I can think of right now. I appreciate any and all input.
