Apex is one of those companies that has mastered the art of farming out the manufacturing of their product lines to a variety of smaller companies worldwide, (primarily China). This allows them to build up the cash reserves to eventually acquire a well known brand name company. Once they do that they can continue to grow using the reputation and name recognition of the newly acquired company. This is a common practice with businesses that have formulated a solid game plan.

They make decent products. Not top of the line, but they aren't priced that way either. For most folks, APEX DVD players would suit them just fine. But, I'm told they don't support VCDs anymore. That probably wouldn't help their cause...many folks buy them just to watch their downloads.

Got in on all the Apex deals at CC for this past Black Friday...

Apex 27" - great TV for $150... a couple complaints are that the lowest volume setting of 01 is really more like a 10 (on a scale of 0-50) on a regular tv... and the thing is REALLY heavy. You cannot possibly bring that thing up a flight of stairs on your own, no matter how strong you are. Perfect for a bedroom tv.

Apex 1200 DVD - Bought two of these and they both play VCDs... unlike the newer 1201s that came across licensing issues... cheap feel, but what can you ask for at < $50 each.

Apex 1500 DVD - Let's just say I ended up getting this one for free... plays everything, just like the 1200.

You can tell how Apex cuts cost by cutting corners, but quite simply, they work. As for how long they'll be around... I'm hoping I don't have to care if these things last at least 5-10 years...

I have an Apex 600A dvd player, which I bought for the secret hack menu. It ran like a champ for 4 years. I began seeing problems a few months ago and it now doesn't read most discs or will lock up in the middle of a movie. Can't say I don't expect it though. Consumer electronics that I only paid $150 for lasting 4 years is a good deal IMO. I would definitely recommend Apex as they offer a decent product at a great price.

I had an Apex dvd player and I was very unsatisfied with it.

Apparently they have some weird bug where they need to be in a very well ventilated area or something. My player would freeze up in the middle of a movie and I'd have to turn off the player, turn it back on and then find the place on the DVD I was at. I got a Philips after that and I haven't had any problems since.

apex is generally known as low end stuff...from my experience though, you get a very good bang for your buck. Their tvs have a ton of features for a low price, and their dvd players are known for playing basically any format out there...I dont own anything apex, but I would for sure buy their product if I was looking to save a couple bucks

My friend bought a cheap one of these as well and he has bitched about it ever since! :)

If image quality and reliability is of no concern, - than one will, probably, be satisfied with their products

Since apex has come out I have been really suprised by them. First off they actually make pretty good products, and the prices you can't really beat. Then they have firmware which has been modified fairly easily. The company is one which I would say is a good trend for good products at a low price.

I'm thinking about getting the AD-2500 progessive scan dvd player. It received pretty good reviews on amazon. Does anyone have this and what do you think about it?
