ok, this will probably relate more to the guys than girls (since girls have purses to store coins):

do you guys hate naturally accumulating coins? some of you may just spend them but for some reason i hate carrying them around in my pockets, and consequently end up not using them. this leads to an accumulation of coins. i could take it to a bank/cu but i think their machines charge a percentage? does anyone know about how much (if at all) banks charge to change coins to cash?

what do you guys do with your coins?

keep some in my car.

the rest go in a coffee can and i take it to the bank after a year or so.

my bank's version of a coinstar machine is no charge for customers.

I put them on the roof of my car and giggle at how long they last up there. I'm being serious too.

Dump them in a jar, wait until they accumulate, go to coin star and get an amazon.com gift certificate.

I keep a bit in my car, but usually I end up leaving them in tip jars. Whatever I do have, I usually roll them up and deposit them.

before i realized there was a 'coinstar' style machine at another branch location, i took my coffee can into a branch, i had all my coins rolled up. which was a complete waste of time, since the teller just unrolled the rolls & dumped it all into plastic bags....

she said it would take a few days since they need to take to a vault and they do the counts there. so, about 5 days later i did have my money credited to my checking account. it was free as well, but obviously i'd much rather had used the coinstar style machine and saved a ton of time, hers & mine.

People who use coinstar, or jars... come on... this is just about organizing your crap.

Use your coins from time to time. I have a little pile in the car that gets to be meter money. When pennies accumulate, I'll take 25 or 50 at a time and use them like quarters when paying.

Putting coins in a jar is organizing! :p

As of right now I try to use them, but at the moment we have a few containers full of change. Coinstar FTW!

One of those big plastic pretzel jugs. Prob will one day coinstar it I remember they used to not take a cut if you used it on amazon gift cards. Might take that up.

You can collect coins and bring them to Coinstar machine to be counted. If you don't take cash, then there will be no charge. I usually take GC from Amazon or Borders or Movies.

Make sure go to the machine that has the GC that you want, not ALL of them are the same.

I have an old 2 liter Dr Pepper bottle with the top cut off that I throw them in. When I go to the carwash I grab a handful of quarters to use, or if I go somewhere else that I know I'll need some change I'll grab some (but I usually forget). Eventually I'll take what I have collected in there to the bank.

I keep them in jars separated per denomination. Got a ton of pennies, dimes, and nickles that never get used though. The rest end up at the coffee shop.

If I get them in my car (or while out and end up in my car), they go in the change tray for use at drive-throughs and meters.

If I get them while at work, they go in a small former business card box in my desk for use in the vending machines.

If I end up with them when I get home, I put them in a S.F. Giants cap bank I have had since I was 5. When that gets full, I roll the coins and, eventually, take them to the bank.

(Note: This is the first time I had ever written this out and I certainly did not come up with this scheme all at the same time. This is just how it seems to work with me.)

Mine goes into the kids piggy banks and then a few times a year deposited into a savings account for their college education.
