What do you guys and girls think of using a non-server OS as a server OS???

So, what ya guys think of this? Yay? Nay? and Y? I have installed on my new Dell Server Windows XP Pro. Couldnt afford any Server OS's. Only going to use as a file server and occasional backups. Any suggestions? Advice?

sure, y not?? if it is JUST a file server, why not a Unix/Linus variant?

the only real difference is the number of clients that can attach and server services like DNS, WINS, DHCP , if you don't need that stuff and will have < 10 attached devices, then go for it

I do believe this is where linux comes in perfectly. Can't afford the expensive MS product, so go for linux

But, if you must, and if it's not going to limit you, then might as well. XP Pro is a nice stable OS. Just make sure to get all those patches.
