I'm curious, having just read a study for class, what does the population of AAT think about the option of marrying with someone of a completely unrelated race?

Better yet, this question:
Would you engage/marry someone who isn't even racially related to you?

A few examples:
African-American Male and Korean-Asian Female
Hispanic Male and Vietnamese-Asian Female
Japanese male and White Female

Certain areas/states may be more biased/leaned towards one way though, so keep that point in mind. Feel free to state your opinions

EDITEd for some clarifications and added another poll that will distinguish between age factor

It's interesting the polls already beat what's fact.
Maybe the night crew have a certain view.

Of the 281+ million people in the US today, only ~5-6% of all marriages are interracial. That's like 1 in 16 people that were interracially married, only if all 281 Americans were married. This figure would be even much smaller in comparison between marriages.

Ethically speaking, absolutely no problem. Marry whoever you care to(assuming all the usual standards of consent are upheld). Were I to run into someone of a diffirent race who had the appropriate qualities in a partner, and about whom I felt the correct way, their race would be a nonissue.

In looking back at all the people I can remember, offhand, having a positive initial aesthetic response to; though, I'm not at all sure that race is a nonfactor at this level. I presume that this comes down to early childhood socialization, or something of that sort; but I find myself more likely to feel aesthetically positive, on first impression, about women of my own ethnicity. As this sort of trivial good first impression is very commonly an important part of human courtship rituals, this is probably an important factor.
I would, of course, prefer not to be rabidly accused of racism for admitting this, as it operates purely on the unconscious level. It isn't as though I'm saying to myself "They aren't of my race, ergo they are ugly." it just happens that some people just have something about them that I find interesting and some don't, and in analyzing the frequencies of these events, it appears that race is a factor.

As I imagine that the question of whether or not it is ethically ok to intermarry is pretty uncontroversial, anyone else care to comment about the effect of race on aesthetic perception?

My dad is east indian, my mom is caucasian.. I asked my grandpa that question about a month ago.. he said the decision was for my mom to make and he had enough confidence in her judgement of character.

I was pretty proud of him considering how racially charged his generation was.

naw, there's a guy on this board that would not even touch a girl of his own race after she dated a black guy.

i see no issue here. people shouldn't be outrasized for marrying whomever they love.

mb i read the question wrong, the poll made it sound like, would YOU (or me) marry someone outside my race. i didn't see where it asked if you would oustracize someone for doing so.

personally, i wanted to and did marry within my race. do i have a problem with others doing it? no.

i don't think the two are the same.
