Just a simple question, what kind of performance increase over the HD 7970 do you expect?

This isn't a Green vs Red thread, so keep that stuff to the minimum.

You're missing the option of slower.

3 months later and with the GTX X80 name, I kinda expect them to be at least trade blows. Still, I guess that wouldn't hurt.

Edit:Hmm, can't find a way to edit the poll. Well I guess we'll have competition as the worst case scenario :D

I believe it could loose in 2560x1600 and Eyefinity/surround to Tahiti but it could be faster in 1080p.

Probably something not dissimilar to this.
Swings and roundabouts, as usual.

Also, performance is irrelevant for most people really, even if a few might like to wave their penis about to say "I have the best".
If it's slower but significantly cheaper (f.ex HD4800 series vs GTX200 at launch), then it will be great.
If it's faster and more expensive (f.ex HD7900 vs GTX580) then it will be "meh".

Not holding my breath for Nvidia to suddenly become a performance/price champion. TSMC is having all sorts of woes and neither company is hurting for marketshare.

GK104 and Tahiti both at 1000/1500, GK104 wins by 5%

GTX680 versus HD7970 at stock, GTX680 wins by 18%

You heard it here first! :p

You have my vote tempered. I in turn predict less oc headroom for the 680, making the 7970 the top dog this round

I expect it to be 10%-15% faster than 7970 but whether that actually happens or not remains to be seen.

I'll throw in my predictions:

Stock vs Stock = 680 wins by no more than 10% on average
OC vs OC = 7970 wins by no more than 15% on average, these are 24/7 OCs

Same performance clock for clock with maybe a little green advantage and 7970 clocking higher.

Also I predict close to useless OC since shaders with hotclocks shouldn't clock as high as core.

I tried

Code:
site:www.computerbase.de/ gk104 "18"

Found nothing, but I'm gullible enough to believe you,
and I also voted 10-20%, so it's a Win here, and Win there

Lol, I expect 680 to perform dead even with 7970, at least in 3Dmark 11. Found this when trying to compare 680 leaks to my scores:

What are the chances of that!

I put 5-10% faster than the 7970. Rather disappointing release this round for both manufacturers. It will also break the streak of Nvidia's high end matching the previous high ends x2 card. And yes, I understand this is supposed to be a mid range card. But Nvidia for now will clearly put it in the high end.

40% faster than GTX 580 for under $500 would be nice, if unrealistic.

10-20%

I have a sneaking suspicion that it was originally 0-5% but the extra time NV had allowed them to up the clockrates and give the card some more leeway.

If the Toms review is legit (and the price is $550) then this generation has been pretty disappointing overall. Looks like the ole' GTX460 is gonna use another one of its lives...
