2001 Nissan Maxima SE. After my previous two cars (a 1999 Integra GS-R sedan and a 1998 Honda Accord EX V-6), I wanted a good-sized sedan with a stick and a 6-cylinder engine. The Max fit my needs well. So far so good; I imagine my next car will be an Audi or BMW.

I like pretty much everything about the car... so I guess the entire vehicle was the selling point for me.

1994 Nissan Altima

I had a Ford Exploder for a few years and ended up putting a tremendous amount of money into that worthless POS for various repairs. As a result, I was really in the market for a reliable car. The Altima's track record was good according to most sources. The other cars I was considering were the Accord, Camry, and Mazda 626. I ended up going with the Altima as I got a really good deal on it, it was a little bigger inside than the 626, cheaper than both the Accord and Camry, and has more engine that any of the others (2.4L as opposed to 2.2 or 2.0). It's not a particularly "cool" car, but it's been very reliable, get good mileage (usually 32mpg or so on the highway), and has enough power to get out of its own way.

I'm thinking something a little bigger for a next car now that I'm a homeowner. It's not fun trying to shoehorn stuff into the Altima every weekend at Home Depot and then praying it doesn't all fall out while I'm driving home.;)

Sorry to hear about your luck (or lack of same) with the Explorer. My dad's on his 3rd and we've not had any serious problems with them. They've all gone well into 6-digit mileages. (Well, the current one is headed into 6 digit mileage really quickly. Had a little under 32,000 on it at the end of last summer when he bought it, it's nearing 60,000 right now.) Perhaps we've just been lucky.

I may have just gotten a bad one, but it has pretty much put me off ever buying a domestic car or truck. The final straw was the transmission nuking itself and stranding me in the middle of nowhere. The damn thing had (naturally) just gone off warranty, so that was a nice little $3000 bill. Turns out that the manual trannys on the earlier Exploders had some faulty seals on top of the case that would gradually fail and then you'd lose fluid at highway speed as it was tossed out of the top of the case. Of course it won't leak while you're parked or driving slowly so you don't notice what's going on. Mine mulched itself on the retun leg of a weekend trip to NC. So kind of Ford not to issue a recall on what turned out to be a pretty common problem for other Explorer owners with manuals. :|

2002 Honda Accord. Had a 2001 4 door Prerunner Tacoma that got 17mpg and the Accord dropped my payment by $35 a month and gives me 32mpg. It cost a little more than an older car, but it is under warranty and I don't have to push start it to get it going, right Fausto?
