OP,

You install a lot of crap that slows down your system in an effort to keep other crap from being installed that slows down your system.

haven't reformatted in a 2 years now . . . what would I do right off the bat?

hmm.

NOD32
Zone Alarm
Opera
Thunderbird (unless the new Opera mail client handles digital signatures)
Windows Update
Gaim
iTunes + Foobar + Foobar plugins + music library (I have some lossless music that iTunes won't play)
bblean
xPlorer 2

disable all the nonsense startup stuff.
make bblean my default.

Good to go. (and I'll never have to look at windows explorer until my next reformat)

Install Firefox, Trillian and NOD32 from a disc, update if available. Download the IETab extension and do my Windows Updates that way. I avoid IE as much as possible.

That being said, I just use Linux now.

What do you do with your computers that you re-install windows so much you have it down to an order of instalation?
