What do you do as soon as you install windows? Like what apps do you need or want to put on like installing drivers. And what tweaks you do.

List them and explain what they do if you want

Avast-Anti virus
Anti-Vir- Anti virus
Gaim-Chat client
CCleaner- Cleans temp files and fixes registry
Fierfox-Web Browser
Spywareblaster-to protect against spy ware
Steam-for CSS
Activesync-to sync my phone
Microsoft Office- Productivity
Nero- DVD/CD Burring and other cd/dvd related things
Xfire- TO talk to my CSS friends
K-Lite Codec Pack- codecs
BitCommet- For my torrents
Diskkeeper- For defraging
Ad-Aware- Spyware protection

Tweaks
I disable prefetcher
I disable start up progrmas to just antivirus and gaim

Windows Updates
Chipset Driver
Video Driver
Every other driver
Antivirus/Firewall (whatever it may be at the time)
Firefox
Other stuff that I install on an as needed basis.

After drivers and MS Update? Usually NAV and MS Offce 2k3 come next. After that comes the restoration of all my desktop icon reminders.

I disable all the stupid programs that start when Windows boots up. Then I delete about a dozen icons of said programs to my recylce bin.

drivers + windows updates, then antivirus, then restore my firefox, thunderbird, and trillian profiles. that's about it.

Firefox is the first thing to go down.
Winamp
MSN
SAVCORP 10
SETI@home BOINC
ABC bit torrent client
Nero
WinRAR

That could get me by for days 😛
the rest is stuff I don't use as much ...

Daemon tools
Norton Ghost
Games
CDEX
ripping/converting utils
Xfire
Foxit reader

etc.

i just had to do this today after my hard drive died 🙁

windows update
video drivers
sound card drivers
all other drivers
nero
ms office
symantec corporate antivirus
daemon-tools
utorrent
old version of aim
winrar
firefox
k-lite codec pack

thats all ive got so far.. still got a long ways to go 🙁

1. install video card / nic drivers
2. patch
3. install remaining drivers
4. install antivirus program
5. install firefox, winamp, aim, A/V codecs
6. tweak (color scheme, desktop background, etc)
7. install games

In order:

Sound driver
Firefox
Windows Update
Avast! Antivirus
MSN Messenger
AIM
Yahoo IM (Will never do this again since Windows Live Messenger basically kills the need for it)
OpenOffice
Edit: Tweaks.. change the theme of XP completely, usually using a blue scheme. I also download any extensions I can't live without in Firefox.

Note: I only need sound drivers because everything else natively runs with my drivers, when it's not on an old OS. Ubuntu Linux, Windows XP, etc. don't need my drivers. Ubuntu doesn't even need the sound drivers.

Funnier note: If I don't install sound drivers, every time you'd hear any sort of sound in Windows, such as an alert, the mobo beeps instead. It's horribly annoying.

Install all drivers
Tweak desktop to "tolerable" level
Install virus protection & update, if necessary
Run WindowsUpdate
Install Firefox
Install appropriate multimedia plugins + codecs
Install all other programs
Tweak settings to "custom" level

firefox
chipset drivers
video drivers
sound drivers
wireless adapter drivers
update windows
zonealarm pro
norton antivirus
crap cleaner
ad aware
disable the unecessary startup prog
games

........

profit !!
