years ago, i traded with my friends
--when i was *done* i simply traded a game for something i hadn't played yet

as i got older, i found less friends as 'into games' as i am

recently, i found i am again *trading* with my cyber-friends here
[even exchanges and i delete any copies of my traded game so there are no license issues]

i wanted to play Vampire: Bloodlines and another member wanted Red Faction ... and it only cost us each postage.

-great way to get rid of my pile of played game and try something else for "free"

--or do you just sell or keep them?

i found i almost never *revisit* an old game and my PC game *pile* kept growing
[with rare exceptions like Thief 2 which got an Awesome fan-made expansion]

I find that when i give somthing away i always want to play it again. I can loan a game iver never touched to a friend and as soon as theyre out the door i want to play the game they walked away with. So generally i just keep games.

is your *pile* growing?

and i generally trade games i *know* i will not be playing again ... like Red Faction ... which i *didn't like*
[although some here enthusiastically recommend it]

or Q4 which has Zero replay value [for me]
[if they *ever* have an expansion... i don't care ... looking for Q5]

and

anybody wanna trade for NWN2 :p
:Q

i feel so *burned* i doubt i will ever fire it up again - even if they ever DO fix it :p
:D

EDIT: i think the *reason^ you feel that way is because your friend tells you something you *missed* and now you feel you gotta REPLAY it
--i found having a *brand new game* ends that desire ;)

For me, the games just stack up. If I dig enough, I can probably find some old floppy-disk based games buried somewhere in my house.

I almost never replay games, but I've never had gamer friends to trade with. Trading online is too much hassle in the much same way that ebaying them would be. I keep thinking I should try to get a few cents for them as trade-in at EB, but I doubt they give you much.

Yea my piles growing. It is usually the game i didnt like too much that i sell/give away. Commandos 2 didnt do it for me, neither did max payne 2, star wars galactic battlegrounds was age of empires with a star wars mod. It sucked. Apart from those few bad buys i ususally keep all games i enjoyed, even if i only enjoyed them a little.

Friends dont even have time to tell me anything new, 15 minutes after theyre out the door i wanna play the game they left with, im probably just selfish lol.

Heres a list of stuff ill probably never play again:

Settlers III - fun but its time is past
Goosebumps mutant game - thinking about this... i wanna play it!
All command & conquer games - I bought the first decade so the seperate games are useless
Actua soccer - My first game, still never played it because it never frickin worked :(
Lost Eden - My second game... point n click dos/win95 game... it was ok
Civilisation II/test of time/call to power - I fired this up a year ago, the screen was filled with icons and buttons, i just said to myself screw this... too complicated, dont remember how to play anymore.
Half life/BS/OF - Awsome fun, played it into the ground though.

I usually resell games that I finish to fund buying the next game.

I have traded a bunch of my old games here. If you post in FS/FT, or even just contact other members (try PMing 'frodolives', he sold me a copy of Planescape: Torment a while back, but I know he loves to trade old games) you should be able to come up with some new (er, old?) titles. :)

Cheers,
KT

I save all my old games. Its kinda like a collection of antiquity, something to show youngun's in 10 years. :)

Just think about how difficult it is to attain older games today. Granted, thanks to the Internet and BT, more recent games are more easily accessible. Its still difficult to find titles from the early 90s though.

I have the exact same story.

Oh, and I don't think EB takes in PC games anymore.

I have several last year games and 2 yrs old games that I will never able to play again except for Madden 07 and Civ4. I am too lazy to trade or sell them. Reason for not playing FPS again due to my headaches. :(

Wow, I would not even know where I would keep that many games. I have a hard enough time trying to find a place to keep all my books.

Copy them to the hard drive and throw out any media. If anyone wants to play them I'll burn them a CD - it's not like the companies sell these games anymore, so they aren't losing money.

I just stash them. My CD tower (2m high) is now full with a lot of crap I will never play again. I've never bought a used PC game before nor have I 'traded' any in since the price they give you is crap. Hell, I'm so lazy I didn't sell my textbooks from last year.

I keep them around, every few years a game pops back into my head. I feel like playing x-com again or Master of Orion!

I then spend two hours digging through my old games, get pissed off that I cant find it, then sit back down.

Damn, this makes me want to play MOO, time to go look for it.

I just bought OpFP 3-in-1, I enjoyed it quite a bit 4 years ago, and now OFP2 in stores it's noce to be able to replay the original on new fast hardware! Otherwise I try to trade/sell all the games I've played before they lose their value completely. I still have a bunch of Russian releases that need really dated hardware to play well.

X-Com FTW.

Sadly the tactical turn based games are pretty much dead. Silent Storm had great gameplay until the end at least.

I have never thrown a computer game out, I still have X-Wing on floppy and F-117A too. Every once in a while when I'm cleaning out my closets, I'll just sit and go through the boxes and reminisce about the good old days.

Dunno why I hold on to them, just nostalgia I guess.

it's just *me* :p

and thanks for all your responses ... i really [reallly] *wondered* what other gamers do ...
--so far 3 groups

1) Hoarder
2) Trader
3) Seller

i need to suggest a new RPG video game with a new Class - *hoarders*
:D

i guess i need to start checking out the "trade" part of the "For Sale" Forum
:Q

i am modifying my *class* from Hoarder back to Trader

:D

see you in FS/T ... or i guess i can list here my thoughts about old games i would let go:

FOR example Riddick EfBB is an *awesome* fps ... i loved it ... but it has ZERO replay value ... i waited long enough for the X-pack ... so i should trade it ... DE:IW was excellent also but i am neither replaying it nor the original... Anyone who hasn't should experience them both. They are *deep*

i also *loved* Thief -DS ... but upon replay, i knew *everything* that was gonna happen ... so the surprise was gone ... i contented myself with an old save and replayed some of the "Cradle" level - a MasterPiece of Horror and Suspense ... but that's 'it' ...
--EXCEPT thief Fans tend to release incredible fan-made expansions 5 years later ... so it's a *keeper*

i don't EVER intend to finish Gun .... great idea of a "Old Wild West RPG" but stupidly 'executed' with "flashing signs" over character heads: "Talk to ME next!" ... some people loved it

PREY is also too new to give up ... and there might be an X-pack but i tend to think it will be standalone and be called PREY2 ... probably same thing with DM M&M

No way giving up Gothic 3 ... they might patch the damn thing - some day ... and it IS worth a replay ... Fable is also AWESOME and i will RePlay as *evil* ... really BAD.

i will *never* replay any of my 3 Serious Sams ...or Max Payne1/2 ... OR HL1/2/Ep1 ... or Unreal 1/2 ... B&W2 is one of the best godgames ever [patched] even if the xpack is buggy ... but i played thru them 3 times and can't BEAR a ReRun ... i am *done* with it and hope for B&W3

Soon as i am done, both FEAR and it's x-pack is on the trading block

i haven't even started to mention my old games ... Legacy of Kain, Soul Reaver/Sacrifice/AvPII/SW-JKII:JO/KotOR I&II/ST-Elite Forces 1&2...
. . . Dragon's Lair 3D ... and all these run on Win2K and XP

and then of course, there are my games in the garage ... i found "Miner2049" for Atari PC A800XL :p
{a PC game from almost 35 years ago ... unfortunately i can't find my "2049er" Console Cartridge for my old Atari 5200 ... i think i still have "Centipede" ... the stock controllers sucked to high heaven}
