What do you do with the previous resident's mail?

Kev

Lifer
So the retard that lived here before me apparently didn't change her address. What should I do with all her mail? Some of it might be important, should I even care?

is this legal?

Um... why wouldn't it be? If you think I am going to go out of my way to drop it off to them or take it back to the post office you they have another thing coming.

It is illegal to open the mail. I follow that law. I throw it away.

The other option would be to make it return to sender so that the placed sending the mail will learn that the person does not live there anymore, and hopefully it will stop.

Leave it in the mailbox with a note to the mailman ("she no longer resides here. I don't know if she left a forwarding address.")

Definitely take advice from this guy.

I've lived in my house over 6 years, and STILL get mail for the previous owners...as frustrating as it is, we just stick it back in the mailbox with "not at this address" on it. Not a big time consuming thing.

oooo. woopity doo. I used the wrong word, it does sound the same so I am sure you got the point. And I placed i before e even though it is after c. You want some cake for pointing out mistakes? I am not writing a paper it is a damn forum.

Usually, if you know the previous resident (usually when you buy a house you do) you may want to ring them up and tell them that they have forgotten to change their address with this.

I know I have phone bills, electricity bills, water bills, at least 5 different magazines, and then there's the frequent flyer cards, as well as credit cards, banks, schools, to worry about. I know I have forgotten at least a couple of items in the list (just remembered one: your car garage), and I'd hate it.

If you've rented the place, tell the person that you are renting off of, and they will tell you what you can do with that mail.

It easy to forget stuff, so if you know the pervious resident, just give them a ring, and tell them.

Throwing it away is being lazy and stupid.!

Throwing away mis-delivered mail is just fvcked up. You can put in change-of-address cards, and your mail may still be delivered to your old address. It might get delivered to the right number, but the wrong street. Happens all the time. No one has ever accused the USPS of being efficient. (even though they DO manage to deliver MILLIONS of pieces of mail correctly every day) Sh!t Happens. Hopefully, your tax eturn or some VERT important piece of mail will be mis-delivered to someone who thinks just like you do..
