What do you do with a kid like this?

My former neighbors have 4 kids. They arent the brightest people. There 8 year old son, had burned down 3 different garages and been caught. He attended the "fire safety class" the fire dept. puts on. He has pulled a knife on a few different kids. He threatened to kill the neighbor accross the streets, 4 yr old autistic son. Now I hear last night, he threw his 9 year old sister in a fire. She is in the burn unit at Regions Hospital on life support. They dont expect her to make it through the day. The police and child protection arrested the 8 year old. What the ........are they going to do with this kid?
 
throw the parents in jail, obviously they arent doing a very good job of parenting if an 8 year could do stuff like that again and again.

That would be my solution. Actually, tell the parents they have to hug the child at least once every day, or they go to jail for the kid's crimes. Most likely it's just a cry for attention. Of course, if the kid keeps it up, he could just fall into the category of "brain not quite wired right" and off to the loony bin he goes.
 
I have no clue what can be done for the kid. If he is that whacked at only 8 years old, that can't be good.

I ditto the need for the parents to be the ones disciplined.
 
I agree with you. All of there kids (4) are pretty s p e c i a l. A lot of it is caused by the parents who are not the brightest people. They get head lice in there house so bad, they shave ALL of the kids heads, girls included. Then mom isnt smart enough to clean the house up so the constantly have the lice! Mom also has 3 other kids from a previous marriage! Unbelievable.
 
I had a cousin like this. He would set fire to small buildings. My aunt was a very good mother to him as well, he was just a couple beers short of a six pack. He got tossed in jail when he was 16 and that straightened him up. He's now married with two kids.

I had a runin or two with "the law" -- but it really put my head on straight.

I tell you what though, if I was that kid's dad, and he threw my daughter in one of his pyrotechnic displays, I'd beat that kid so bad that it'd make his burned sister look like a little girl at disney land.

I mean, surely somewhere either the parents suck, or the kid is a few screws loose.

Either way he obviously doesn't deserve to share what society has to offer.
 
Send him to a boarding school/"Special" school for problem kids.

1. He'll be away from people that he can hurt
2. He'll be under constant supervision
3. Maybe they can slap/knock/teach some sense into him that the parents have failed to accomplish
 
Get that kid out of the house and into some therapy. There seem to be deep seated issues afoot.

And make the parents responsible -- maybe then they'll decide to raise their kids, instead of just babysitting them.

I agree with most here that something drastic needs to be done. What disturbs me the most is that if his sister does die (sysadmin said they don't expect her to make it through the day), and this kid is charged with murder, he gets let go at 18, and his records are sealed. That means at 18 he has a nice clean police record, no records of arson, murder, and whatever else he has done.

If laws are different were any of you live, or this has changed, feel free to correct me. I'm going by what I heard about juvenile crimes (even serious ones).
 
I remember right after I first moved next door to them. I heard a bunch of screaming outside so I looked out the window. This little Asian lady was chasing this kid. He ran into the house and she followed him, she had a broom in her hand. Then I heard him screaming bloody murder. I guess she just beat the snot out of him with that broom! I asked his dad later and he said "oh yah, she kicked his butt with that broom. Thats ok, he deserves it."
 
wow, those sound like competant parents. thank god they have the right to have more children if they so choose.
 
You stick him in jail for a week. Try to scare him into being good. He'll see he doesn't want to live life as an inmate. Military school would be a possible option too. There are lots of schools for troubled kids. none of them are nice.
 
Par boil the kid for 15 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, garlic and paprika, and roast in a medium oven for 2 1/2 hrs. (yes, j/k)

This whole family sounds dysfunctional and in need of serious intervention from the local social services. I hope someone has the guts to call this to the strong attention of the local authorities.

Not to mention castration and histerectomy of the parents to make sure they cannot continue to create such f***ed up children. Then, as for the kid, lobatomy, or mental hospital for a long time with lots of shock therapy.

I still think the full frontal lobotomy on the kid, castration of the parents and turn the remaining kids over as wards of the state

damn, where do you live? some sort of cheapass 'bad' area with trailers around?
