I've always swallowed my gum. No reason not to - and disposing of gum any other way is a hassle.

You expunge it just like any other fiber source.

Gum is basically rubber. Rubber is not digestible. Thus gum is fiber. Fiber is good for us - and most of us don't get enough fiber. In fact in one the biggest diet study ever done, a high fiber diet beat all other diets. So for many people swallowing gum would be benefitical. Try it. Swallow brightly colored gum (you can break it into pieces to make swallowing easier) and you'll see it in your stool the next day.

That old wifes tale of gum staying in your stomach for 7 years is so laughable. But if it were true, wouldn't that be a great diet? No more stomach stapleing. snopes.com on the subject.

Eat 50 sticks in two hours and give us the results.....and when I say the results....I mean tell us about how you felt afterwards....not...you know!

so you confirmed it isn't digestible, but say its a good fiber source? how do we benefit from it if we can't digest it?

That is what fiber is - an undigestible thing you eat.
(a) Fiber keeps your digestive system running smoothly - with proper fiber amounts you will poo everyday without diarrhea or constipation.
(b) Fiber pushes out other digestable food with it - that food has less time to be absorbed into your body - meaning you absorb less of the fat and calories of the food you eat. If you are overweight this is an easy way to lose weight without eating less.

I specifically typed "gum" after everytime I typed "swallow" to avoid a comment like yours, captains. I guess that attempt failed.
