what do you do to prevent electronics from being stolen from home?

so yeah, i'm asking this question because i've gotten robbed TWICE now within a 2 month time-span. once at my apartment near my college and just recently back at my parent's home. My parent's always keep the house locked but they still managed to break through.

I was just wondering what you guys specifically do for any electronics laying around and how to keep them from being stolen(or at least make it alot harder for them to get stolen). Electronics such as HDTVs, Game Systems(PS3,X360,Wii), DVD players, Laptops, etc. (because these are things that i've lost)

I know home security like alarms would be a good idea but sometimes that doesn't really stop burglars. I was thinking of wall-mounting any HDTVs I own in the future, and maybe get some sort of kensington lock for the rest, but anyone have any better ideas?

I lock my doors and windows. Seems to work for me. Maybe they are doing it wrong?

I love how people rationalize about being cheap and not getting security services when it's needed.

An alarm stops the junkie looking for something to steal for his next fix, or kids.

It won't stop a professional, but why would a professional bother to hack into your slomin's security for a few hundred dollars in items?

He's actually pretty friendly, but sure doesn't sound like it if someone is snooping around.

No point in trying to secure things once they're in the house already. They'll probably just get pissed that they're locked down and smash the thing if they can't take it.

hide some cameras around the house to record the last few hours of activity so you can ID the perps

move to better area
don't have a house with easy to get in doors like sliding doors

Or you could trap them inside your home!

Simply lock your door but leave an iPod on the table in plain sight thru the window, this way they're not suspicious and the shiny white toy will act as a lure. Once they've broken inside of your home they'll notice the other gadgets strewn across the floor, laptops, flash drives, portable video game consoles, leading the would-be bandit closer and closer to your basement. Upon opening the door he'll notice your ginormous LED TV sitting at the bottom of the steps. Unable to resist the urge to snag that last piece of electronic treasure he'll make his way down the steps and trigger a set of solid steel bars to collapse down and lock him from within.

Congratulations! You've got yourself a sex slave!

Buy a bar that blocks the door from opening. Or just cut a 1" dowel rod to fit in the track.

Buy some alarm company stickers if you can't afford the actual system.

Move.

oh man!
Dead projector TV, dead xbox for bait. They go down there and trip the system and both the stairs and the roof above them hinge down on the far end. No tools. Windows barred. cellphone jammer.

Personally, I live in a nice neighborhood where I don't worry much about break-ins. I once lived across the street from a meth head... so I learned my lesson.

I have these devices called "deadbolts", which if properly installed prevent 99% of burglaries.

I also have a "security system", which makes it much less likely that a burglar is going to stick around after breaking in (would YOU want to be seen loading stuff in a truck in the middle of the day with an alarm going off?), and a "shotgun" for when I'm home.

Soon I will get a pair of ferocious kittens for an added layer of protection.

The area that i live in isn't ghetto at all and all my windows and doors were locked shut but they managed to break the lock on my sliding door and bust in. the handle to my sliding door was completely broken.

You don't do this trick?

Sliding door latches are 100% worthless. They are only meant to keep out toddlers.

I set a bunch of these at chokepoints in my home before I leave.

But it becomes a problem if I want to go back inside
