I recently had a bad trade that was my fault. What do you guys do to make up a bad trade to a person?

I would say it depends on the situation, because some things seem worse than others. Maybe you can offer the guy a refund, give him a lower price or do something depending on how bad it is.

So far I have been involved in two trades that went less than spectacularly, in both cases due to one party shipping late. In the first case, the other trader decided to send me free software by way of apology, and then sent even more free software to apologize for shipping his apology late. :p Sounds funny but it was a pretty amazing commitment to customer satisfaction on his part.

In the second case I was at fault so I simply threw some cash into the box as compensation.

whenever i get a bit late in shipping i will send it next day via usps. that usually calms down the buyer (especially once they see how much it cost me :Q)

I've shipped later than I originally stated a couple times, I generally refund a portion of the purchase cost (10% rounded up to the nearest dollar).

They always seemed happy.

I have had 3 trades where something happened on my end. This is what I did.

The 1st was me being stupid and not shipping a package when I should have. I have the guy a $5 refund on a $20 item and he was happy.

The second was a money order that was lost in shipping. I just sent out a new one, along with a 10% waiting fee ( He did not ask, but anything to make him happy since he cross shipped. ) that was also $5.

The 3rd was a stick of memory that was DOA. Wierd. I pulled it out of a working system, TRIPLE boxed it, and sent it. It was DOA. I gave full refund and $7 to cover return shipping and his wasted time.

It all comes down to how you want to be percieved. I sell stuff I do nto need, and want to be percieved as a great guy, so I go out of my way. Soemtimes all that is needed is a heartfelt appology.

Give us the sordid details (but without the names).

Quit with the "hints" (it was 'time') . . . how much time? Expiring minds want to know.

well i shipped everything on time except for one cd. I shipped the box and it was empty. (i let my friend borrow the disc and he only gave me the box and i didnt check it and shipped it out) So it took me a month to get the disc to him.

If it's a friend, offer to trade back. If it's a stranger, forget about it because it was their fault that they trusted you.

Thanks for the details.

I wouldn't call it a "bad" trade. I would simply contact the person and profusely apologize . . . then I'd ask if he needed me to "make it up" to him and have him suggest what is reasonable.

When you say "CD", I am guessing it is an audio CD or game CD and not Photoshop 7? Was the person really worried about your "honesty"? Did he make a "big deal" about it?

I guess you are worried about a bad heatware "evaluation"(?) ;
