I just spent two hours modifying the VBA code on a rarely-used spreadsheet just so it executes in about a quarter second instead of five seconds.

Now I'm testing to make sure I didn't break the functionality while implementing this useless change.

Usually I'm not this bored, though.
 
I sit at my desk pretending to do work, when i'm not. I would say in an acutal week, I do about 15-minutes of real work.
 
Do the rounds to all the blogs I read. Facebook and IGN on my phone since they're blocked at work. Keep up with the ton of work emails that flood my inbox. Go to Wikipedia and research stupid, menial shit, and then follow link after link after link and then end up on something completely different than where I started.

Wikipedia is a great way to waste some time. I will usually start out with something history related, and go from there. I might start out with roman history, and end up on a totally different topic.
 
If you're bored...find other work to do...There's always "busy work" that needs doing, whether you want to do it or not.

Truth, right there. But I'm not complaining. I've got it way better that a lot of folks.

That's not useless. Those 7200 seconds you just spent will break even after 1,440 uses of the spreadsheet, so if it was used about once a week, that's about... 28 years.

When I'm bored, I catch up on pending projects and just work through my boredom. Then I find something more exciting and productive to do.

I read, a lot. Most of our business happens first thing in the morning, at noon, and just before close. Lots of downtime in between. I've chewed through Clive Cussler's Isaac Bell trilogy, a couple Steven Kings, and a few books left by my predecessor in the past few months. They pay me peanuts so I'm quite content doing nothing for most of the day. :sneaky:

It's too bad we don't have internet access. The place next door got wise to us and locked their WiFi. 😛

Once a week would be incredibly optimistic, sadly.

That's okay, it was mostly just so I could teach myself some new things, instead of brute forcing my way through things with if statements and loops.

I wrote a bunch of autocad shortcuts that automate shit. Typing "shawn" will zoom out, save, and close a drawing file 😀

Another thing I did when bored was change a bunch of files so they use block references everywhere, even for little mundane things like wire labels. My 300kb drawing file is now down to 200kb. Score.
 
Usually sit around in the squad and wait for the next call to come in/drive around. A couple weeks ago we were posted for so long that we played a full 18 holes of putt-putt. Hooray for private EMS.
