Just wondering if swallowing any residue in your mouth would be harmful if one uses Listerine daily.

i spit out a few times until my salivary glands settle down. I pour water over my tongue but don't rinse out my whole mouth

I believe it contains ethyl alcohol, not isopropyl...

DDS here. U should spit the listerine out and then rinse with water. The one u just spit out is the fluoride rinse. There, end of subject.

The bottle says not to rinse doesn't it? If you leave it in your mouth it will keep killing bacteria. I rinse because it tastes bad.

I don't feel as clean if i rinse before brushing. somehow i think it's not as effective when teeth are covered with a layer of ... hmm... whatever it's called

no it is not harmful to swallow a bit of it, and if you rinse with water afterwards you kinda defeat the purpose.

well a bit daily can add up, but i'm also wondering if rinsing with water afterwards will defeat the purpose. but if all the germ killing takes place during the 30 sec rinsing then rinsing with water afterward shouldn't have negative effect...
