Today I ate a ribeye, a salad, and a few cashews. Normally I have some veggies in there too but I was lazy and my wife wasn’t hungry.

I guess it depends what google result you land on or what video you watch because everything nutrition related differs between sources. Been trying to work on eating healthier but it's so frustrating figuring out what to believe and what not to believe when it comes to nutrition.

Less sugar and less highly processed foods is a good start.

That's basically what I've been doing as that seems to be the only thing that seems to agree across the board. Even carbs is an odd one, while most sources seem to say it's bad (because carbs is basically sugar) some sources seem to say it's not. Even seen some source say that oatmeal is good for you, which was something great to hear since I have it a lot... but look at the nutrition info and that's full of carbs.

Don’t get too hung up on carbs unless you want to do keto. Keto has done me a lot of good but I also have trouble sticking to it in the long run. I’m 22lbs down from my peak weight, but I’ve been 15lbs lower in the recent past.

Just make your carbs good ones, veggies, some grains, fruit, and not french fries.

Rolled oats for breakfast (what I eat with 4oz of milk) have a reasonably low glycemic index (and low glycemic load, if you keep the serving size down). So carbs aren't necessarily bad. Here is a good list of the glycemic index for a bunch of carbs.

Carbs aren't "bad" for you at all. It's just that most people won't have a few chips here and there. They will eat a whole bag in one sitting. Or they will eat a whole box of cookies. When people say bread is not healthy, I just roll my eyes. I mean it's not like you are eating a fruit or anything, but having some bread with a meal is far from "unhealthy" like people try to make you think.

It also depends on what your goals are. If you are trying to lose weight and lean up a bit, then going low carb definitely will work wonders. But it's hard to do because there are carbs in so much food. If you are just trying to live a healthy life style though and not worry about that too much then having some carbs is just fine. Just don't over do it.

Also, a lot of the "bad" carbs people talk about are the hugely processed foods with tons of sugars.

A quick tip on shopping healthy at the grocery store - stay on the outer perimeter. Most layouts are the same with produce on one side, meats/dairy on one side, then breads on another side. I only really go into the middle aisles for one off things I need to get but always leave the cart at the end of the aisle because it's just one thing here or there I need. Mainly it's snacks for my son.

That's the thing, you guys are saying carbs arn't bad, but I can talk to other people who say it's super bad and leads to heart disease and diabetes etc. There is no 100% agreement on any of this stuff which is what makes it hard to figure out. It's just all so confusing.

French fries right now are my weakness. Whether it's poutine, or just fries I do in the actifry at home. Should probably try to cut those out.

I mean if you're eating cookies and potatoe chips all day, yes that can lead to that stuff and it's not healthy for you. If you're eating french fries and a burger every day, it's not healthy for you.

If you are eating sandwiches or pasta for dinner every now and then, that's just fine. So is having french fries every now and then.

If you can't see the difference between the two, then you've got even more of a problem.

Eating too much of anything is a bad idea. However, eating more protein and fat than carbs is a smart thing. Eating less processed foods is key.

Ah, poutine used to be my kryptonite, when I was younger. Now I have it once a year at a French Canadian restaurant. We used to call it a heart attack on a plate

i need this now

The gadget is $15 on Amazon:

Just spray it with Pam, crack an egg directly in it, and poke the yolk with your finger, then close the lid. Let it cook for 2 minutes, then lift the lid, flip the egg, close the lid, and let it cook for another minute & 45 seconds. Toss a piece of cheese on it to let the heat melt it down, then put it on a bagel! They freeze well too!

I recently got a great little kitchen gizmo, been enjoying bagel & egg breakfast sandwiches for weeks now!

That's cool. I've had this in my cube at work for a couple of years, and I use it to make an egg and cheese English muffin sandwich for breakfast two days a week.

That looks like a really cool device. I kinda hate having so many purpose built gadgets but considering I want to eat healthier and eggs are one of those staples that have tons of nutrients and are annoying to cook on a pan I might actually consider this. I guess throwing it on a bagel kinda cancels out the health benefits, but moderation I guess. :p

Yeah, I've consolidated my gadget collection down quite a bit over the years (had 30+ at one point). This one is actually kinda crappy for making pancakes, but the eggs come out perfect! I've always had trouble making eggs that fit on stuff like bagels, because they get all floppy & spill out & stuff, and this little gadget is really handy for making a perfectly round egg. Plus, I have a hard time creating variety for breakfast...I pretty much live off breakfast burritos & sous-vide egg bites for breakfast, lol. This is a nice way to add some variety to my morning diet!

It's generally "supper" in the south, so you are only special with your milk bags.
