Simple question. What kinds of things do you buy second hand? I like shopping for furniture second hand and computer parts. I really can't see spending $500 on a desk if I can pick one up at Habitat for Humanity for $50. Computer parts are the same story. I will happily let someone else test the first run of a product so I can buy the same thing a year later for 1/3 the price.

My clock only had an hour hand and a minute hand, so I bought a second hand.

I came home with a carload of clothes and toys for my 15 month old for $15 this morning.

Yay for garage sales!

Kids clothes, toys, books, games, yard equipment and used cars are the big ones for me. I have no problems buying "reconditioned" products either.

yeap we did the same. with my daughter we got lucky. One of the church's have what they call the "twins sale" it started because a lady at the church had twins and wanted to sale the stuff.

anyway got to it early and walked out with 5 huge garbage bags filled with clothesm a bunch of baby toys and other misc stuff. it cost us like $50 for everything and all of it was nearly new.

i love going to garage sales or auctions. if its something i will use i will get it. i have yet to buy any yard tools new.

I got a "three piece kitchen set" for my daughter this weekend for $10. It's small plastic fridge, sink & dishwasher, and an oven plus 3 gallon sized ziplock bags of utensils, plates, fake food, ect to go with it.

That stuff would have easily cost $75 or more if you bought it first hand.

Don't forget to turn them inside out when you're done so you can get another use out of 'em!

Of if you've got an angry inch, just tie it off and use it again and again.

Occasionally, computer parts from the FS/FT forum. The only problem is, since I got rid of Paypal, I haven't been able to play around in there anymore. :(

Outside of a few items I don't know if there was anything I wouldn't buy second hand. That doesn't mean that I can always convince the wife to do the same, but before I make any $100 and up purchase I investigate whether there is someone out there getting rid of what I want.

I'm building myself new computer right now (first time since 2002 ). FS/FT + craigslist + ebay ftw.

I don't go more than a couple of days without going through craigslist for things on my wishlist. Patience is the key.
