Reminds me of the old joke -- turn 'em upside-down, and they all look the same...

I'm just NOT a (ahem) fan of small computer cases! To me, it's 6 of one way... half a dozen of another. I don't know when this paradigmatic shift took place in my life, but I think it's when I bought a 43-inch HDTV -- and ppl told me it was too small. Maybe I'm overcompensating now with my computer case -- who knows?

My question to you is: Why do ppl feel compelled to super-size everything, these days, except their computer cases? I don't get it!

I have a cube computer -- 18"x18"x18". To me, this is an appropriate size for a computer case, in 2006 -- not too big, not too small -- perfect, as a matter of fact, especially if you want to go with water cooling some day. However, I keep seeing ppl trying to put 10 lb of *stuff* in a 5 lb sack. What's the point of doing this?

If it was me, I'd go with something much bigger. You seem to like fans -- I have 7x12cm fans in my case. Is that too much? I don't think so, but that's just me.

I guess what I'm saying (and asking) is why limit yourself by running a small case?!?!?!

not everyone needs a loud beastly 7 fan case. some of us like a nice small compact system that isn't an eye sore, and i can't imagine why you should need 7 fans. that new antec nine hundred has my eye at the moment, there's a thread about it. interesting setup, big slow moving fans and cool temps. people are finding it under a hundred bucks as well.

The zero isn't that tiny  it appears to be about a normal-sized case. Not everyone wants a behemoth MMUFO case ;)

Hrm...

Seems self-limiting to me!

Okay, well, keep buying small cases... wondering if you can squeeze that 'giant', next-generation, air cooler in there...

No sweat off my brow! :)

i'd guess if i was running multiple hard drives i'd probably want a bigger case, but for a single hdd, single dvdrw, a smallish (this really isn't small compared to something like the x-qpack) case works fine.

well, if not needing a big case is denial and justification, i guess 99% of the members of the forum are guilty. :) some of us also leave the house with our pcs, and i can't even imagine lugging that thing ufo thing around.

Hey, it's a good way to pack on some muscle! Lug that thing around to a few LANparties to train for this.

It sucks when you need two people to lift your computer. Especially when you have to evacuate for a hurricane. :( Moving wasn't much fun either.

I always love this part! Ahem...

My 18"x18"x18" cube case weighs 12.5 lbs. Mountain Mods claims the U2-UFO weighs 15 lbs, but it doesn't. I could pick it up with my 'baby finger', without straining, when it was empty. No kidding...

LoL! :)

I think the Enermax Chakras or other cases with that 250mm fan cools as well as is possible for air cooling. But I suppose that 4x120mm fans would equal one of those if your case company can't get their hands on the 250 for a reasonable price - one could do that to any case I suppose. You just want to be sure there is plenty of venting for the air to excape thru. Some Aerocool, some XClio and others keep popping up that have that 250mm fan as well.

Me too. Except my case's shipping weight was 100 pounds... :)

not quite, but it does have three locks on it. One for each side panel, and then one for the front. It really is a beautiful case. Too bad it's so damn hot and loud. With everything in it, it was probably 150 - 160 pounds. I'd almost enjoy seeing someone try to steal it. ;)

Yes, although the system has been dismantled. I'm selling the insides (it was a dual Xeon server setup) because I had to move after getting out of the Navy, and the system was heating up the room too much. But I'm keeping the case, and I'll be working on the mods on it in the meantime. But yes, that was my personal machine. 21 fans, 9 hard drives, two processors, two power supplies... It was a beast.

Heh! This is getting a bit confused now... let's regroup! ;)

Personally, I'm running a Mountain Mods U2-UFO Opti-1203 right now. This is a bastardization, if you will, of the original Mountain Mods U2-UFO case. It is pre-drilled to accept a Thermochill HE 1203 radiator, et cetera. hence the name. I plan to go with a C2D setup, around the first of 2007, and convert to dual PSUs and water cooling. In the meantime, I'm running an air-cooled P4 Northwood on a DFI LanParty mobo, yada, yada, yada.

While I was waiting for C2D prices to drop, I recently talked to Mountain Mods about making yet another bastardization of the U2-UFO, with a horizontal mobo tray -- for use with the increasingly large HSF air-coolers that are hitting the market. 10 days later it became reality in the form of the Mountain Mods U2-UFO Horizon. I'm NOT claiming credit for making this case -- I just gave them the idea/concept, and they ran with it. Fair enough?

Anyway, I'm rambling, so I'll stop...

There are lots of nice, BIG cases out there -- the most recent being the Thermaltake Mozart Tx, I suppose. Some are designed to be Server cases -- some are for Home Entertainment systems -- but the shining star in all this is Mountain Mods, IMHO -- the ultimate gamer's case!

To my way of thinking, they are the perfect case for this time and place in personal computing. Big enough to throw whatever you want at it, but not so big as to be considered industrial-sized, butt fugliness.

The U2-UFO series is basically just a light-weight (12-15 lb) double-width aluminum case. No big deal, size-wise, but the possibilities are limitless -- limited only be your imagination, actually! And, if you don't like what they offer, MM will even build you a custom case, to your specs. Tell them what you want, and they'll give you a price and a completion date. It doesn't get any better than that!!!

Now, having said ALL that, I still see ppl buying 'small case' after 'small case' trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, so to speak. This just makes me sad! I feel sorry for them -- really! I "pity dah foos" as Mr. T used to say! I'm NOT trying to prove I'm better than anybody -- I'm just trying to wisen them up! But, it's hard as hell to do when your 12.5 lbs, 18"x18"x18" case LOOKS like it's 43"x43"x43" and weights 40 lbs, you know? ;)

well, although i love the MM cases, I got a v2100b.
(I bought it used with some other stuff so it was cheap)

I agree with Vin, Don't limit your self with a little case.
