i don't know enough about post-partum depression to make judgement in this case.
making a memorial to raise awareness of post-partum sounds like a good idea. if she has contributed to the university and her profession with lots of research, then she deserves recognition.
unfortunately, there's a baby that died at the hands of it's own mother, that i can't get past.
She comitted suicide in jail. If she had still been alive in jail, would she have still gotten a memorial?
Uh... no? Common sense much? MEMorial. Rememberance. Usually only dedicated to dead people.
If the memorial is constructed for the purpose of remembering all of the GOOD things she did for the UNIVERSITY then I see absolutely no problem with it. Some of you need to supress your rage a little bit and understand that the memorial isn't to remember how cool she was for killing her diseased baby, but for her contributions to society and the university before her life got derailed by the pregnancy. It's obvious she was well loved by many people that knew her MUCH BETTER THAN ANY OF YOU DO. So calm down, won't you? Thank you.

She didn't kill that baby because she was ill and she will enjoy a special place in hell.
I love my baby, but to end its suffering I am going to slide a sharpened blade across its neck and watch its life drain away all over the carpet...
If I went to Villanova, I'd be doing my zoo monkey impression when I went near that memorial.
If you are in the midst of the widely recognized greatest experience of a woman's life and it is making you miserable, you should seek help, not sharpen the cutlery...Originally posted by: nakedfrog

Oh... because you're a woman who's had a baby and experienced postpartum depression, you know exactly what she was going through, right?
Wait, I'm pretty sure you're a dude. So you can't say that she wasn't ill.
This is certainly not the only case of a woman killing her child/children while experiencing postpartum depression. That could be why it's recognized as a legal defense in 29 countries.

If she had given the kid sleeping pills or smothered it with a pillow, that would be one thing, but to take a knife and slit your baby's throat crosses lines not drawn by chemical imbalance alone...

Isn't one of the teachings of Christianity forgiveness?
While still horrible, sinful, & reprehensible, the former methods are a tad bit more humane than throat slashing... She said herself it was to put the baby out of its misery. The method leads me to conclude she is full of shit.Originally posted by: NFS4

Maybe that memorial was meant to be a comfort to the saddened and grieving people left behind in this tragic situation.
