What do we call 1000GB?

Man, hard drives are getting larger so quickly. I remember when a 2GB hard drive was $250+! Now I can get something like 60GB for that price. Crazy. I think I'd want dual 60GB though (I'm still on 20, thinking of upgrading in a month or two).

It depends.

If you're a hard drive manufacturer, you call it a terabyte.

I call in 24GB short of a terabyte.

(And then we need to determine whether those GB are "decimal gigabytes" or "binary gigabytes". The difference gets to be quite significant when we're talking about this much capacity.)

So right now... I have "80 gigs"... so when the new technology comes out, I'm gonna tell people I have "2 teras" ?

Lol for $250, you can get a 120gb hdd bro 🙂

actually we call it 1000 gigabytes or 24 gigabytes short of a terabyte.

Remember, with bytes, they're not multiples of ten.

1024 KB = 1 MB
1024 MB = 1 GB
1024 GB = 1 TB

Er, do hard drive manufacturers actually call gigaBYTES 1000 megaBYTES? I always thought they simply used bits (where 1000Mbit == 1Gbit), and just left out the identifier (bits vs bytes). I.e. I can say to an ISP I want to buy a meg of bandwidth, and I certainly do NOT mean 1 MegaByte (8mbit).

*shrug*

My first drive in my smoking 386 was 80 megs, not gigs, megs. When I bought this system my dad said "what do you need with such a big system, you will never have to buy another computer in your life". LOL
