I have a Abit Siluro Geforce4 Ti4200 64MB in a
AMD Athlon 1800+ (1.53 MHZ) (133 FSB)
512 MB DDR RAM

runnin at about-- mobo- 43 C
cpu- 62.5 C

The ABIT is supposed to have a great cooling system

it comes w/ default speeds of:
Clock: 250
Memory: 500

i was gettin 8859 on 3dMark01 w/ these specs

OC'd it to 280/550 and got 9162...not a big change so i set em back a lil bit to---

265/525--- and this is where i have it now...whats the most i can OC this thing before it starts to hurt the card? is this even too much? too little? keep it at factory specs? wut shoud i do...thanks (btw i keep the PCI slot right under the video card slot open i think it gives xtra ventilation just in case it matters)

I have my PNY 4200 64mb at 275/600.

Just about everyone can get the memory clock to 590 or 600...some have it at 620 or higher...but 600 seems to be the average.

I couldn't get the GPU to run stable above 275 though. :(
I have read that almost all the 4200 GPU's can do at least 290, but no such luck for me.
Oh well, no too bad for the $79.99 I paid. :)

The 275/600 setting gave me about 500 more 3dmark2001 points and made AA/Anis in BF1942 run smoother.

I have the same card from ABIT. Have not OD'ed it yet because my 3dmark score is 12500 so I dont's really need to OC it. The reason I am posting is to inquire about your CPU temp...........62.5C....wow that's hot. You got the HSF on there all the way? That thing is smokin!!!!

really u think so?

other people have told me thats normall....hmmm

i have the stock fan on there...wut do u think i shoudl do? wut would be a bettter fan to put on there and if i do that then how much lower will i get?

i can get it a little lower by setting my FSB back to 100 but then i lose like 400 mHZ

thanks for ur concern plz reply withi help LoL

Putting a non-stock fan with a heatsink on your CPU should help it's temp quite a bit...as well as proper ventilation of your case.

That should do it. I should mention that I own a P4 and just realized that you have an AMD. So, not exactly sure what the norm is for AMD's theses days...but 62.5C seems too hot to me.

Get a non-stock heat sink that is made of copper or has a copper core and watch the temps plummit. I like, and use, the Vantech Aeroflow with copper core and 5400 rpm fan.

And for god sakes man lower that case temp....lol. Get out the hole saw and go to town. An additional case intake and exhaust should do it.

my dads friend is the 1 who got me the computer--- ill give it to him and tell him to go to town and install fans and stuff---- lower the temp

how long be4 i definately hafta do this before u think that it starts to hurt the components!!!!!

thanks alot!

how about runnin it with a side of the computer off c if the temps drop?

i gotta install more fans into my case to fix temp???? i cant just install fan and heatsink on proccesor????

thanks again

I wouldn't recommend taking a side of the case off because then the air inside
isn't gonna move around...IMO....airflow my son airflow. :)

To lower the CPU temp you don't need to add more case fans, just the HSF.
Lowering the CPU temp will probably lower your case temp a little anyway.
So, try the HSF first and see what the case temps are afterwards.

My golden rule is to keep the idle case temp under 95F which is about 37-39C i think.

ok thanks maybe ill go out and buy that fan...can i install it? is it easy? i can install HDD, any pci card a video card ummm ram so would this be hard to install?

also is there anything cheaper that will do the same job? 38 bucks for a fan sounds expensive...

Hold up a second, what motherboard are you running?

If you are running a MSI nForce2 mobo(at least, there are some others too) then the temp you are seeing is not the same as the one others are talking about. Right now I have a "CPU" temp of 44C(have my fans turned down to their lowest) which is the number most people quote(temp sensor under your CPU socket). The standard ambient, or motherboard temp reading is 40C, my actual processor temp is 58C. The last number is internal thermal sensor on the inside of the CPU, it will report ~12-20C higher then the temps most people quote(most mobos won't report the internal temps because too many people are used to the lower external temps).

If you lapped the heatsink or put a bigger one on your ti4200 and glued it on with thermal adhesive that they sell here, after cleaning all the gunk off with acetone, you'd definitely see an improvment in speed. Also, can you oc your machine at all? I get 10,500 3dmarks with my oc'd nforce1 board and a geforce3@ 250/545. Of course my fsb is at 177.

Note: if your cpu is a palomino, you'll have to unlock it and lower the multiplier. I'm assuming you have decent ram to get the fsb higher.

im not quite sure wut ur talkin about--- my processor is AMD Athlon 1800 + and i can adjust the FSB thru the bios 1 mhz at at time but i was told to keep it at 133 any higher would be overclocking and i dont need xtra heat until i get my new fan

how the heckl do u have it at 177 w/ no probs

i think the video card is OK heat wise i dont really need to OC it that much

anyway thanks

As long as everything stays cool, you can get pretty a pretty fast fsb.

I'm going for 270/560 on my dear old geforce3 right now! I didn't have adjustments past 250 in w2kpro for some reason. Maybe the drivers or something.

edit: it'll only do 261/561 cause my case is really warm.
