Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3
1TB HDD @7200 (whichever one i can find for around $90 on newegg, etc)
GTX 280 (possibly 260 if i cant afford it, any suggestions of where to buy the 280 for a low price?)
nForce 750i FTW edition motherboard
4GB 1066Mhz RAM (suggestions on which kind? looking for a low price and was leaning towards OZC because i always see them on techbargains (but some reviews say the rebate is hard to get))
Ultra case (havent chosen which one)
around 700W PSU
Whichever CD/DVD drive/burner I can find for around $25
I was going to get an ARCTIC Cooler and maybe push the CPU to 3.6
Vista 64bit (should i get a second faster HDD to put the windows files on and then I can just wipe it when 7 comes out? someone suggested that)

FROM THE STICKY (sry, didnt see that the first time, although I did read through it):

1. $900-1000
2. I need it to cover PSU, Case, Mobo, CPU, CPU heatsink, RAM, HDD, DVD drive, GPU, additional HDD (if needed), and a device that I can use to record video with (see later comment)
3. Ive pretty much decided on a 1TB HDD (although could use suggestions for the second if I get one) and 4GB of 1066Mhz RAM. I want the GPU to be a GTX 280 although if the other parts are too expenive, then a 260
4. Use will be Gaming/work (but that doesnt really affect it cause its already gaming)/HTPC (see later comment)/Video Editing (w/ Adobe products)

Comment about video:
I want something to record my Xbox 360 clips, HD if possible (atleast a good resolution)
So I need it to take component imput (just wondering, if i re-route my TV signal to COAX, does that carry HD?) I was looking at the HAVA Platinum HD and that had a component loop through, will that have any lag when the signal goes through it (that would make me not able to play xbox?) The other things I looked at were HD PVR #1212, Pyro AV Link, and i heard of Slingbox and Hauppauge
I also wanted to be able to play and record TV shows (I have FIOS, so the box would go into the recording device) and I need to back up all my VHS onto DVD or atleast get them on the computer, so I need something that would be able to do that too

thanks for reading this really long post

I am not a gaming system expert, but I would consider a motherboard that can handle more than 4Gb of RAM, since you are using Vista 64-bit. The home version can use up to 8 gig of RAM, and the other versions 16 to 128gb. I would imagine that would help with games. Buy 2 hard drives instead of one, so you can put gaming files and OS on one drive, and the pagefile on another drive. A SATA motherboard and SATA hard drives. Vista Version RAM limits Even if out of budget, if you pay the extra $50 from a low end micro-ATX motherboard, it saves you from buying a whole new motherboard down the road, since you intend on buying Windows 7, and I assume you would to make good use of it.

i recommend u give the 9550(2.83 ghz quad intel) a shot
as far as the 280 gtx is consider i saw some evga card which was almost at the cost of a 260(some superclocked thingy)
alternatively u can consider the ati 4870 a shot it is at some 10% difference with the 280(performance wise)
and u didnt mention wheither ur will overclock or not
if so u can consider good coolers like the
ocz vendetta 2 or the xigmatek s1283 ..........
a antec nine hundred case + corsair 650watt psu is good(i heard it has a single 12v rail with 52A on it)
go for the 1066 ram if u have plans to overclock the cpu to above 400 fsb
or else u have to have insanely high spd to hit 1066(no issue though)
only a difference of 1200 mb/sec if u go for the 1066(dont know how much performance it will translate into)
and a p45 based board is better than the 750i(i dont see any point in spending more than 100$ on motherboard)
