what do they generally ask for summer internship 30 minutes interviews?

skim milk

the interviews last 30 minutes each and I would really hate to be the one to be cut from the list of potential candidates

What type of questions will they ask?

It's for an assistant of a analyst position of a major financial company

... why would you really be the one to be cut? unless you're ridiculously underqualified for the position or all the other candidates are connected by blood to some board member, i'd say you'd have as good a chance as anyone.

From the internships I've done and the interviews I've conducted, it's pretty basic -- prior experience, motivations/ambitions for applying, applicable skill-sets -- then after that maybe some introductions (compatibility/"first-vibe" test) to other co-workers, and a brief synop of what your work would entail.

No different from any job, really -- probably a lot less judgemental as well; they know you're an intern, not some corporate pitbull trying to claw your way to the top

oops, that was a typo

Well... be prepared to handle it like it's a big job, not just an internship.

Mostly, places who hire interns start off by weeding out the people who seem like they are just looking for a name to put on their resume and don't care what they can bring to the table.

They'll try to weed out the people looking for a gateway to working at their company. That may be an internship to you... but them, most interns are cheap/free expendable labor.

Show them that you have dreams... tell them what you really want to do in the future and tell them how interning for them can fit in to those dreams.

Show them how you will be an asset to their company.

Be ambitious. Don't tell them you only want to do one certain thing. Tell them what you'd like to do there, but tell them what you'd like to take away from it. Despite the fact that they are looking for an asset, they don't want to hire an intern that isn't going to learn jack crap from working there.

I actually think they'd want people who will end up at their company. Why waste money and time training a guy and getting him acquainted with your office culture if you dont intend on hiring him in the future?

Well yeah, interns are the most likely candidates for jobs, but most places won't give internships based on someone just trying to wiggle their way in. Like... people try to get internships and when its over, they get all pissy because they don't get a job.

Show that you can be a tool , but still think for youself. And for the Love of all things holy. do not wear flip-flops and jeans.

There was a guy about two weeks back that came in for an internship wearing that and a shirt. Granted the shirt had a collar and was tucked in so he got points for knowing to to tuck in his shirt, had no belt, did not shave. I am surprised that his interview lasted as long as it did.

He is not here.

I don't have much description about this position... I'll be asking that during the interview
