What do these all mean? (And what forum does this belong in?)

Since this deals with both hardware and software, I wasn't sure where to put it. So if it gets moved, and someone sees it in its "new" forum, can you PM me and tell me where it is? Thanks.

Now, on with my question. The amount of programs my dad has running on our family PC is ridiculous. I want to do him (and all of us) a favor by freeing up some RAM, thus speeding up our computer, and maybe avoiding future potential errors. Problem is, we have half a million programs running when I press ctrl+alt+del, and I have no idea what a bunch of them are. So, I'm going to put the entire list here (this is the list of programs that appears when I press ctrl+alt+del), and if you could tell me what they mean, that would be appreciated. Any of these that you know what they are, let me know! Thanks. Then later, I'll try to find out how to not have those silly ones running all the time. BTW, if you think this is bad, it used to be worse. :)
Here goes:

WinFaxMOD-U.S. Robotics 56k win int
Explorer
Sysdoc32
Gwhotkey
Wfxctl32
Pkslapi
Pktopass
Pkjobs
Monwow
Realplay
Poproxy
Csinsm32
Whagent
Wcescomm
Wmencagt
Osa
Hpppt
Qshelf98
Navapw32
Rundll32
Hpcdtray
DirectCD
3cmlnkw
Starter
Systray
Csinject
Nprotect
Winampa

Phew! OK, hope I didn't make any typos! Thanks for any help!

Feel free to nuke it all, except Explorer, Systray and whatever AV program he's running. If he wants quick access to a program, create a shortcut on the desktop.

Your Dad is one of those people that really annoy me when I get their system in.

Gwhotkey - Is it a gateway? If so this may be the "Extra" keyboard buttons.

Navapw32 - Norton Anti Virus.
DirectCD - Program that is installed when you install Adaptec easy CD. It allows you to use your CD-burner like a floppy (Can't delete though :))
3cmlnkw - Possibly the program responsible for link lights for your network card. Modem if you have no NIC.
Systray - The program responsible for all those damn icons to the left of the clock (Don't kill it)
Nprotect - Norton Protected recycle bin I think.
Winampa - Winamp Agent. Disabled via winamp options.
Realplay - Real Player. You can disable this in the real player options menu.
