What do the Mods themselves Prefer?

There are 3 ways that a Mod can be alerted to a "bad" or "misplaced" thread (by a concerned forum member):

1. Post here in Forum Issues.
2. Private Message.
3. E-mail.

Which do they prefer (if they do have a preference)?

Mods, at this moment there are 12 NEF threads "(blank) in my Coke" in OT and spreading like a virus.

They've posted previously that posting in FI was preferred so that there could be discussion on whether it should indeed be locked and if any actions should be taken against the originatior of the thread in question, it was also stated to be a means of gauging the opinion of forum members as to whether any member should be banned or watched closely.

Of course this stance may have changed recently given the unpopularity among some members of notifying the Mod's in FI.

Of course it's not up to me how the mods want to run the place, but I would prefer mod rule over mob rule any day. Even if I don't agree with a mod's particular decision I prefer that to a bunch of other folks 'voting' on whether a member should be banned or 'watched' or something. I've noticed some threads where 3-4 people are really getting pretty heated and one of them come over to spill the beans on other one(s), when they are all guilty of various offenses. I can only hope the person or persons getting banned aren't being treated any worse than the others just because they didn't make it over to FI first.

Rand, do you know WHERE it was posted? And/or how long ago?

I couldn't find it using "search" but then I am a klutz with it sometimes.

I am just asking them for an "updated" ruling (if they even have a preference).

Personally, I have used PM with almost immediate attention from them (without any publicity from other members).

I am NOT trying to make a big deal of this.

Let me give an example.

Last night in OT there was a post (by someone I think is posing as a 15 year-old by his other disruptive threads) that was so sexually suggestive and objectionable (here) that it was DELETED by the mod (no discussion needed).

I saw it late and didn't have time to PM, but I certainly wouldN'T have posted it in Forum Issues to draw MORE attention to it.

EDIT: What do you think should be done with the proliferation of "(blank) in my coke" clone threads in OT right now?

Ya nef ;) I do recall a mod saying something like "hey we're not complaining", along those lines. It was in one of Paulson's thread topics I think. It might be deleted now.

Just like in real life I imagine there are some differences amongst the mods, so one might love to see stuff posted in FI, it might irritate another, I'm speculating here.

I DO remember the Mods saying that they appreciated the "heads up" by forum members.

I just wanted to know their preferred method of communication.

For example, it is taking quite awhile for a mod to reply here . . . and those stupid "(blank) in my Coke" threads are spreading like a virus in OT.

(I forgot - it's Sunday!!!!)

EDIT: I thought I'd join the gang and point out at this moment there are 12 identical NEF threads in OT regarding "(Blank) in my Coke." And multiplying.

Well, speaking only for myself, I would probably use PM unless the matter is super urgent, then I would do both PM and post here I guess. It seems posting here is quicker because the mod doesn't have to be logged in as moderator to see it, as they would to view a PM.

Normally, PMs would be preferred. However, in order for us to get a PM, one of us has to actually be logged in to the moderator account. Many times, we are logged in with our regular accounts and do not have access to the PMs. Thus, posting here is sometimes the best method because any of us who are on may see it.

So, there is not a real preference berween the two. As members, feel free to do that with which you are most comfortable.

e-mail is the worst method because the number of moderators who have access to the account is limited and the volume of mail is huge.
