As far as I know of, the Wega's are their high-end TVs, meaning they have both a good sound system, and a great picture.:)

The WEGA series are Sony's latest flat tube. The older Trinitrons were flat vertically, but curved horizontally, like a cylinder. These are flat both ways. I was in the market for a big screen, so I checked them out. Grabbed a KV-36FS12 at Sears for $1,280.00. It cost a few hundred more than the Trinitron, but the picture was obviously better. I figured it was worth it for the amount of hours the thing will be viewed from now on.

Here's some reviews for it. It was really picked apart by these guys, but still given top honors. They mention the weight quite a bit. When I first read their reviews and the concerns about its 225lb bulk, I figured they must be a bunch of wimps. :p After all, it only weighs as much as a single large man, right? Well, it's enough to give two large men a hernia when you try to lift that above your waist! :Q

While I personally haven't seen one of these, people who have (including family members who have gone to Best Buy and looked at these while browsing) say the picture is purely amazing.

I'll eventually be buying a 32" or 36" Wega just from what I've heard about it. I have Trinitron monitors, and if the picture is anything like what I can get on the monitor... Mm....

Ornery: thanks for the link...i compared the other 36in Wega's and the one you have is probably the best one for me, since i don't need PiP, but my only concern is the 3line (KV-36FS16 or KV-36FS12) vs. 3D (KV-36FV26 or KV-36FV16) digital comb filter...how is the 3line filter, which is what you have, versus the 3D?

can anyone who has the KV-36FV26 or KV-36FV16 tell me? TIA

Beats me, it's probably a friggen typo! :p

If you want the top end stuff though, look at the XKV-36XBR400. It's got that same 3D comb filter too.

If you've ever looked at the XBR, those are stunning. Can't even see the interlacing. :)

The XBRs are simply beautiful. No interlacing that is noticeable. It is more like the smoothness of looking into a computer monitor. I believe they are 1080 lines with an s-video cable to a dvd, but rca cables are stunning as well. They have many s-video inputs and rca in/out. I think around 6 total for the 36".

They are pricey.

and to think if today were November 17, 2000 we could have ordered the Sony WEGA KV-32FS12 for $690 with free shipping.

To think I paid $499 for my 27" Toshiba Cinema Series which granted is a nice TV but for only $191 more I could have had a 32" Sony WEGA!!!

Saw the 32XBR400 at Good Guys yesterday for $1800, down $200. It's the TV I have, but my dad made some kinda deal on it where we didn't have to pay tax. :D

I think he said he could get it at their online site with free shipping and no tax, so Good Guys in CA said okay. We also tried to pricematch with J&R, they had it for around $1650, but Good Guys wouldn't, but they knocked off about $150 off the price though because of it. I think the overall cost of it was around $1800 with no tax. :)

I was at Home Video Library this week and saw the 32" Sony WEGA which was playing "The Matrix" freakin' beautiful piece of work.

Why oh why it would have only cost me $690 :(

Hey RossMAN, I know what you are talking about. I've got a 27" Tosh Cinema Series which i've had for a couple of years or so. Nice tv although with the price of Wega's now ... man, I gotta make some more dollars.

bill_n_opus - Thanks, glad you understand what I am going through. Thankfully I hardly ever watch TV, I average like 45 minutes per day. But it would be oh so nice to have that WEGA for $690 but in the long run I ended up saving money I suppose.

I did a lot of research before buying my Toshiba it was nice that I bought it locally from a quality A/V dealer who knows their sh*t when it comes to A/V. I was debating between a 27" or 32" Toshiba Cinema Series but I couldn't justify spending $650 when a 27" works just fine in my bedroom. It basically has every feature under the sun including 2 PIP tuners I believe which is handy. I've got cable, ReplayTV 3030, and VCR hooked up to it. My next TV purchase will probably be a significant upgrade.

WEGAs are awesome. I also think that their prices are really reasonable. If you don't already own a decent TV <by decent I mean about 27 inches with adequate picture quality and made in the 90s :D> then by all means, you've gotta get your hands on the WEGA.... as far as saving up your money is concerned, don't, because once you do, you'll just want something better, the chain doesn't stop
