What do people use for editing music?

I need to edit, splice and loop some beats and need something open source you do you all suggest?

i dont .. but i think you can use something in Nero, like wave editor .. dunno how good it is tho

if you are talking about midis than i use cakewalk pro audio 7, but other wavs and mp3s i don't know

Audacity is a nice little tool for the new and low-end. Personally, I use Cubase SX and Adobe Audition (Whichever one I feel like clicking on, really). I can't afford ProTools :p

You're going to need to use Audacity. I use Fruity Loops and Reason 3.0 (if you think Protools is expensive...).

there is an 8 track free version of pro tools that will run on normal hardware.

i use Acid Pro for my loops and samples, but i don't know if they still offer a free version of that.

Audacity is okay, but CoolEdit Pro 2 is excellent; we used to use that in the University Radio Station a few years back. Sadly, it's been bought-out by Adobe and is now called something else (Audition?).
