what do moms who garden, plant and work in the yard usually like?

Seriously, define "the usual" and I can probably give you some suggestions. I'm a pretty avid gardener.
 
Nice, healthy plants are ALWAYS welcome gifts in my house.

I have an herb garden and a butterfly garden, otherwise known as heaven on earth.

Hammocks, statues, WINDCHIMES, etc are all nice garden things.
 
nifty yard decorations. not garden gnomes! something that'd suit her style. hummingbird feeder? subscription to a gardening magazine? bulbs to plant in the fall?

Take her for the day to the Huntington Library, their rose gardens are wonderful, and then to Pasadena for lunch.
... or to the Arboretum.

A really good set of gardening gloves, some new tools. Throw in a few of her favourite plants and top with a card.

And oh yeah, help her plant.
