What do I need to run Homeworld well?

Currently I've got a K6-3 400, 128 MB RAM and a V3 2000. Needless to say it gets a little chunky when my fleet gets big. I want to upgrade ASAP and be able to run Homeworld smoothly.

I'm gueesing that Homeworld is a CPU intensive game because it needs to continuosly re-calculate the positions of all the ships in 3D. I'd like to buy a GF2 MX and a Duron. If I play in OpenGL mode will the T&L engine on the GF2 help much?

Even when I turn the detail levels down to nil I still don't notice much of a speed increase. That seems to say that it's FPU intensive.

Of course I could be completely wrong about all this. Please correct me if I am. Thanks guys. :)

I play Homeworld with the system shown below at 1024 in 32 bit *VERY* nicely. Notice that is "only" a SDR geforce, and if you were to get the MX that is slightly faster. The Geforce over the V3 would help, but i am unsure about whether HW utilses T&L.

The MX coupled with a Duron would be a nice speed increse. I upgraded from a similar system to yours and HW was ALOT more playable :)

Homeworld needs a fast cpu (wel fpu accually) so an athlon or duron will be fine. :) The video card isn't realy all that important, as the video card isn't going to be maxed out like we see in games like q3 etc at high res.

Homeworld does NOT utlise T&L. :(

i would suggest upgrading the cpu and seeing how that goes, but i doubt that a video card upgrade after that will show a much of a jump in performance, but i am sure you play other games where the geforece MX will help. :)

what was the other thread with the homeworld question/problem?
