My soundcard is an Audigy Platinum eX (SB0090) minus the daughter card and additional features. Does this card have a midi port? If not what's the cheapest route to a midi port?

Do you already have a keyboard? If not, there are now good keyboards that connect using USB instead. Google can probably find a few if no one gives a link here.

Get a MIDI cable which attaches to USB. That's really all you need beside the software to go with it. Before it used to be MIDI to Joystick/Game port, but those have gone the way of the dinosaur. I would imagine that the Audigy doesn't have a game port, but I could be wrong.

This works, but I'm sure you can find something cheaper, unless you need the software.

No i don't have the keyboard yet. I just want to buy a cheap one with no additional features. The only features i'll need will be included in the software i'll be using which is Propellerheads Absynth.
It would be nice if i didn't have to buy any additional hardware. Any idea if programs like that and reason are compatable with usb keyboards?

Sorry i'm a little slow on the uptake today. So a game port is the same as a midi port?

Yep, and if your sound card does not have one, the chances are good that your mobo has one. On my A78NX, I can choose to use the gameport even if I have disabled on board sound. (NForce 2, soundstorm)

Make sure you at least get a decent MIDI keyboard. I don't prefer Casio. They have horrible sound reproduction and they just feel cheap. Yamaha is a good choice for a budget. How much are you wanting to spend on a keyboard?

Well i'd like to get a 60+ key-keyboard & keep it under $150. Like i said i'll be using software apps like Absynth so doesn't the software actually produce all the sounds and therefor wouldn't one keyboard be the same as another since my computer software/speakers will be doing all the work? I was thinking about something really simple like the Roland PC-100.
